At our Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft.
We are seeking a new Manufacturing Engineer to join our Wing Systems - Hydraulics team, where we undertake the manufacture of Bleed Air, Fuel & Anti-ice systems using a range of processes such as Tube Forming, Swaging, Surface Treatments, AGS Assembly, Electrical Bonding, System Identification Marking and Function Testing & Aqueous Cleaning
In this role, you will provide Manufacturing Engineering capability to both Operational and Development teams such as process mapping/designing and troubleshooting to enable and deliver zero defect projects. You will use your engineering and problem solving skills to deliver robust, capable manufacturing process technology in relation to materials, tooling, part fabrication and assembly.
The successful applicant will work a 4.5 day week, including flexi-time, equating to a 35 hour week as part of a team of a wider team of 4 Manufacturing Engineers.
This role is initially on a 12 month FTC basis, however there is potential extension and/or a full time position depending on business requirements.
In this role, you will:
Be responsible for the implementation of materials & process methods and solutions, from original concept through to production Deploy these processes with a high degree of process capability utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite to demonstrate as such Be responsible for technical support of manufacturing development and integration for production. Resolve issues pertaining to vendor quality Provide specialist knowledge to production activities with the ultimate goal of improving efficiency, product quality and the reduction of non-conforming parts Exemplify a safety-first mind-set and ensuring compliance with the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards Be responsible for the development of technical solutions to complex problems within GKN Aerospace, our customers and suppliers Deliver technical support of manufacturing process development and integration for production Utilize root cause analysis, preventative and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non-conformances Maintain positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co-workers Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiativesTo help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and expertise/ talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:
Essential:
• HNC/ONC in Manufacturing Engineering or relevant experience in a manufacturing engineering environment • Ability to read and understand engineering manufacturing drawings and technical documents • Experience using IT packages such as MS Office
Desirable
• Knowledge of, and ability to use and implement LEAN tools and techniques • Experience using SAP or similar business software
