Job Description Job Title: Manufacturing Engineering Manager â Supply Chain - Submarines Working Pattern: 37 hours/ days Working location: Derby Raynesway An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager â Supply Chain in our Submarines business. The Submarines business is going through a period of unprecedented growth, with a need to triple our output over the next few years. With a significant volume of parts manufactured in our External Supply Chain, this is a critical role to ensure the highest of engineering & quality standards are adhered to across our supplier base. You will join a team that is leading a transformation of supply chain management within the business, as well as securing the nuclear supply chain that is critical to the Defence Nuclear Enterprise and is a truly national endeavour. We need to make fundamental changes to how we operate, implement those changes, whilst maintaining the highest nuclear quality standards demanded by these complex & challenging products. We manufacture in our supply chain a highly diverse product range, from large vessels to precision machined components, exotic raw materials to new plant & manufacturing equipment. We apply advanced technologies in the manufacture of safety critical components, requiring a high level of control. You will act as Technical Authority, assuring the initial and continuing capability of the method of production to produce product conforming to design definition. Youâll ensure the resolution of technical issues, problems & arisings, to meet business and customer requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and lead-time, integrating all Manufacturing Engineering activities through the supply chain. What you will be doing HS&E â Responsible for ensuring that all manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture deployed are in full compliance to Health Safety and Environmental standards. Product Safety â Champion product safety and promote a product safety culture in the supply chain, ensuring learning related to product safety is embedded. Responsible for ensuring that product safety risks are understood and mitigated to meet the required safety levels and reduce in process safety risks so far as reasonably practicable. Quality â Promote a culture of zero defects across our supply chain. Provide technical governance and assurance in all aspects of manufacturing nuclear products, ensuring product integrity and process safety through compliance with the relevant policies and standards. Technical Authority â Specify Manufacturing Engineering and process requirements and make technical decisions in relation to the area of accountability. Chair the Control Authority governing change for area of accountability, subject to appropriate delegation. Develop Talent â Act as a professional leader of the manufacturing engineering community, ensure the required competences are in place and promote the development and growth of the team. Resource Planning â ensure work is aligned to the Do / Buy assessment and that appropriate work is outsourced by the Strategic Labour Partners, enabling the high-value & complex activities to be done by the internal team. Relationships - Manage, develop and maintain effective relationships with the external supply chain, ensure the requirements are understood and maximised, coach when required to deliver successful outcomes in line with the requirements. Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing - Operate as an active member of the global Manufacturing Engineering leadership team, proactively supporting cross-Business collaboration, knowledge sharing, skills and process development to best utilise the available resources to deliver business needs and priorities. To be successful in this role you will need to meet the following criteria: Professionally qualified Engineer (UK minimum BEng degree or another national equivalent). Chartered status (CEng) desired. Forward thinking and innovative, with the ability to lead and inspire teams to drive positive change. Experience of working in a high complexity manufacturing environment, nuclear experience desired but not essential Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organisation, operating across functions manage a wide range of stakeholders. Good understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to their business General awareness of Manufacturing Systems (CAD, CAM, CAPP, Manufacturing Execution System, Manufacturing Intelligence, SAP, Technical Publications, etc.) relevant to the business. Has led significant projects/activities across a range of Manufacturing Engineering processes Has experienced manufacturing change in a suitable combination of ways, such as facility re-design, facility move, technology insertion, new product introduction, process revalidation, quality improvement.
