Unlock Your Aviation Career Potential as a Mechanical Technician at RAF Valley, Isle of Anglesey

Are you a skilled and dedicated Mechanical Technician seeking an opportunity that offers significant impact and professional growth? Babcock International, a leader in defence and security, invites applications for a full-time, permanent Mechanical Technician position at their esteemed RAF Valley site on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey, Wales. This role presents a unique chance to contribute to a safe and secure world while advancing your career within a supportive and forward-thinking organisation.

The Opportunity: A Role Beyond the Ordinary

As a Mechanical Technician at RAF Valley, you will be integral to the maintenance and operational readiness of aircraft and their components. This is not a typical technician role; it demands precision, independence, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards. You will work diligently with approved technical data and instructions, ensuring adherence to the organisation’s Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE).

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Performing comprehensive scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on aircraft and associated components.
  • Conducting thorough system tests to ensure optimal performance.
  • Analysing performance data and diagnosing faults, applying your technical expertise to devise effective solutions and refine existing procedures.
  • Maintaining up-to-date task competencies and demonstrating a proactive, adaptable approach to all responsibilities.
  • Supporting compliance activities within the maintenance facility, including vigilant oversight of tooling and procedural checks.

This is a full-time position, requiring 37.5 hours per week, based on-site at RAF Valley.

What Makes This Opportunity Stand Out for You?

Career Development & Specialisation:

  • Specialised Aviation Experience: Gain invaluable hands-on experience within a critical defence aviation environment, working on sophisticated aircraft and components.
  • Structured Training Pathways: While an Engineering Apprenticeship and relevant qualifications (City & Guilds 2675 or NVQ Level 3 in Aeronautical Engineering) are essential, Babcock is open to considering candidates with Trade Principles and Aircraft Platform training, provided they are willing to complete the B3(T) Pathway. This offers a clear route for career progression.
  • Continuous Learning: Babcock is committed to your professional development, offering excellent opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Exceptional Benefits Package:

  • Competitive Compensation: A competitive salary ensures your skills and dedication are recognised.
  • Work-Life Balance Support: A generous holiday allowance, with the option to buy or sell leave through Holiday Trading, promotes flexibility.
  • Health & Wellbeing Focus: Access to a Digital GP, annual health checks, and nutritional consultations through Aviva DigiCare+ demonstrates a commitment to your personal wellbeing. An employee assistance programme further supports your physical, mental, and financial health.
  • Financial Security: A matched contribution pension scheme with life assurance and an employee share scheme provide long-term financial benefits.
  • Additional Perks: Benefit from an employee shopping savings portal and payment of professional fees.
  • Community Engagement: 'Be Kind Day' allows you to dedicate a paid working day to volunteering, fostering a connection with the wider community.

A Meaningful Contribution:

  • Impactful Work: Be part of an organisation dedicated to defending nations and protecting communities, contributing to a cause that matters.
  • Secure Environment: Work within a stable and established defence contractor with a long-standing history.

Key Considerations for Prospective Candidates:

  • Essential Qualifications: A completed Engineering Apprenticeship is a strong preference. Qualifications such as City & Guilds 2675 or NVQ Level 3 in Aeronautical Engineering are highly regarded. If you possess strong Trade Principles and Aircraft Platform training, please highlight how you would approach the B3(T) Pathway.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in computer systems and digital tools is a prerequisite for this role.
  • Security Clearance: It is imperative that you can achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance. Please note that eligibility for this role may be influenced by your nationality, place of birth, and residency status due to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. Candidates are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the UK government's guidance on security vetting.
  • Location: The role is based on-site at RAF Valley, Isle of Anglesey. Candidates should consider their suitability for this location.

Babcock International is committed to fostering an inclusive culture where everyone can thrive and is a disability-confident employer. They are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements at the interview stage.

This role offers a compelling path for experienced Mechanical Technicians to deepen their expertise in a vital sector, backed by a comprehensive benefits package and a commitment to employee wellbeing. If you are ready to take on a challenging and rewarding role, we encourage you to explore this exciting opportunity.
