Job at John Lewis Partnership in Leyland, Lancashire

Vehicle Technician Opportunity: Drive Your Career Forward with the John Lewis Partnership

Are you a skilled and motivated Vehicle Technician looking for a role where you can truly make a difference and grow your career? The John Lewis Partnership, the UK's largest employee-owned business, is seeking talented individuals to join their team at the Leyland Regional Distribution Centre. This is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to become a Partner in a company that values its people and is committed to building a happier world.

This role focuses on the essential maintenance and repair of the Waitrose E-Commerce vehicle fleet and other branch vehicles, ensuring they are always safe, reliable, and compliant with all necessary standards. You'll be part of an experienced team, provided with the tools and support you need to excel and develop your expertise.

Key Advantages for Potential Candidates:

  • Career Development & Learning: The Partnership is dedicated to your professional growth. You'll have opportunities to develop your knowledge, receive manufacturer technical training, and stay abreast of industry advancements. Experienced technicians will be on hand to mentor and guide you.
  • Competitive Compensation & Enhanced Hours: With a salary range of £31,500.00 to £44,200.00 per annum, this role offers a strong financial package. Furthermore, for those enrolled in the Enhanced Hours Premium arrangements, there's a significant Evening Premium (£3.00 per hour for 18:00 - 22:00) and Night Premium (£4.00 per hour for 22:00 - 06:00) available for time worked after 18:00.
  • Ownership & Belonging: As a Partner, you'll be a co-owner of the business, sharing in its responsibilities, rewards, and successes. This unique employee-owned model fosters a strong sense of community and encourages everyone to contribute to the company's ongoing innovation and growth.
  • Supportive Work Environment: You'll work alongside experienced colleagues who are committed to ensuring your success. The Partnership prioritizes a positive and inclusive culture where everyone feels they belong and can thrive.
  • Work-Life Balance Focus: The role offers a permanent, full-time contract working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. While core hours are in place, the Partnership also supports flexible working arrangements where possible, which can be discussed further during the interview process.
  • Varied & Engaging Work: Responsibilities include scheduled maintenance, repairs, roadside breakdown assistance, and providing technical support to transport departments and branches. You'll gain exposure to a range of light commercial vehicles and potentially HGV, EV, and tail lift repairs if you possess those skills.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Experience & Qualifications: A solid background in commercial vehicle workshop environments is essential, along with City & Guilds qualifications (1, 2, 3) or an equivalent. A full UK Driving Licence is also a must.
  • Desirable Skills: While not essential, experience with HGV, EV (Level 3), and tail lift repairs would be highly advantageous and could further enhance your career trajectory within the Partnership.
  • Adaptability & Proactivity: The role requires adaptability to carry out work at outlying branches (within a 60-mile radius) with a business vehicle provided. Being proactive, efficient, and taking ownership of your personal and technical development are key to success.
  • IT Proficiency: Familiarity with IT systems such as Key2, Service Rapido, and relevant diagnostic systems is necessary for efficient record-keeping and problem-solving.
  • Commitment to Safety & Quality: Adherence to health and safety measures, both on-site and roadside, is paramount. You'll also be responsible for accurately completing all inspection/service documentation in line with regulatory guidelines.
  • Application Timing: Vacancies can close early due to high application volumes, so it is recommended to apply as soon as possible.

This Vehicle Technician role at the John Lewis Partnership offers a compelling opportunity for skilled professionals to join a forward-thinking, employee-owned organization. If you're looking for a stable, rewarding career with excellent growth potential and a strong sense of community, this could be the perfect next step for you.
