Modelling Associate

Do you enjoy developing simulation models? Do you want to get more experience in this?

Through this project you will have the opportunity to work on real world model development in (human and animal) health care. You will work closely with Professor Kathy Kotiadis, an expert in discrete event simulation modelling (theory and applied practice) to undertake simulation studies exploring the impact of new diagnostic developments on organisations and especially the NHS. Given the length of the appointment (until December 2028), you participate in a number of simulation studies for different diagnostic developments, in collaboration with external stakeholders e.g. diagnostic SMEs, clinicians/end users.  By the end of the project you will:

have gained additional modelling and simulation skills be part of a leading UK Operational Research department have contributed to diagnostic developments from innovation to market (implementation)gained dissemination skills (e.g. conference and journal dissemination)be a leading expert in health systems simulation modelling.

We are seeking someone with a postgraduate degree in Operational Research or a similar field with excellent knowledge of simulation and great communication skills that will be the modelling associate and be primarily responsible for developing simulation models in health care.  You will be joining the department of Analytics, Operations and Systems spanning all areas of Operational Research. The department has 17 research active academics including 7 professors (chair) as well as a vibrant community of PDRAs, Visiting Researchers, PhDs and other Modelling Associates. 

As part of the application, alongside a CV and cover letter (which evidences the essential criteria), you are required to submit a one-page “Research Interests & Plan” statement, outlining one or more potential ideas for projects you would like to work on which align with the mission of the Centre for Advanced Diagnostic Development and Application. This two pager should include a list of references.

Please note you will be expected to travel to different diagnostic company sites in England as the centre has a National remit. Given the nature of the role there is some scope for remote working and so working arrangements will be explored at interview.
