The role

As a Principal Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Join us as a Principal Engineer in a forward-thinking, agile environment that fosters professional growth and career progression. This role offers the opportunity to lead impactful engineering work while developing your expertise within a supportive and dynamic team.

Day-to-day, you’ll provide technical support and design consultancy for non-nuclear and nuclear mechanical handling assets at Devonport Dockyard, including cranes, hauling systems, and lifting equipment, ensuring safe, compliant, and effective operation across site activities. Additionally, you will:

Provide technical support and guidance to maintain the design intent of existing mechanical handling systems and equipment Lead multidisciplinary design consultancy projects focused on new systems, modifications, life extension, and capability enhancements for cranes, lifting equipment, and related assets

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Principal Engineer

Experience in design and substantiation of components and systems Skilled in hand calculations and FEA analysis Proficient in engineering drawings and 3D modelling (preferably Inventor) Knowledge of nuclear or safety-critical environments

Qualifications for the Principal Engineer

A minimum of an engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering or CEng accreditation with relevant experience

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
