The role As a Principal Structural Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be playing a fundamental role within a team of experienced Structural Engineers, overseeing the technical delivery, as well as development and coaching to ensure the team have the necessary skills to support a key customers and stakeholders.
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for directing technical outputs, coaching junior team members as well as coordinating and working with multi-disciplinary teams and representing Babcock at customer meetings to support a variety of projects.
Conducting structural assessment using hand calculations and finite element analysis. Undertaking design and assessment for explosive shock survivability. Attending platform surveys and validation exercises. Generating platform capability upgrades for naval vessels Performing technical investigations and feasibility studies. Developing the team’s technical capabilities to ensure capability sustainment.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Principal Structural Engineer
Significant experience in marine structural analysis and design of marine structures knowledge Effective project management, interpersonal and communication skills Proven ability to effectively lead, coach, develop junior members and facilitate transfer of knowledge within the team. Experience in utilising Finite element analysis software Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively and deliver in a complex environment as well as positively influence and work collaboratively across the organisation
Qualifications for the Principal Structural Engineer
Degree qualified in a STEM discipline (or equivalent experience). Has achieved (or can demonstrate the competencies required for) Chartered or Incorporated Engineer Status with the UK Engineering Council and holds full membership of a relevant engineering institute.
Security Clearance The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
