Job Description Job Title: Product Definition Engineer - Instrumentation Working Pattern: Full time - Hybrid Working location: Bristol What you will be doing An exciting new opportunity is available within the Test and Experimental Engineering (T&EE) Instrumentation Design team for an enthusiastic and committed Product Definition Engineer. Instrumentation is critical to any gas turbine engine test to allow measurement data of engine performance and behaviour to be obtained, and its design and integration within a gas turbine engine is highly complex. The UK Instrumentation Design team provides the complete design engineering service for all Defence and Civil Aerospace engine programme instrumentation requirements, creating design solutions to install sensors into development gas turbine engines for both ground and flight testing. Instrumentation requirements cover a wide range of measurement techniques and vary in complexity from fast and simple sensor installations to designing complex bespoke solutions such as rotating telemetry units and rakes. As a Product Definition Engineer your main task will be to produce and check component definitions in-line with company practices to meet design intent, satisfying fit, form and function of the component whilst optimising manufacture, to enable the delivery of fit-for-purpose component hardware ready to be built into test engines. You’ll be responsible for: Work within the multi-disciplined Instrumentation Design team to ensure new and revised component definitions are fit for purpose (meets design intent, manufacturable etc.) and meet engine build and test schedule requirements for engine programme customers. Create, review and approve component definition drawings for instrumentation components, ensuring quality and adherence to Rolls-Royce standards is maintained. Produce tolerance stack-ups to aid new product creation & validation. Interface with manufacturers to ensure that components are suitably defined and can be manufactured, incorporating their feedback into definitions. Drive the development and introduction of continuous improvement (of tools, processes, methods and guidance material) within the team to improve team capabilities and efficiency. Why Rolls-Royce? Candidates should have previous product definition experience and are expected to have professional and academic qualifications to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline. Trained and experienced in the use of CAD tools, with demonstrable experience of component definition and drawing standards. A good knowledge of engine components and associated manufacturing capabilities. Strong communication skills. Thorough, with an eye for detail and an ability to apply logical, analytical, and innovative thinking to a range of technical problems.
