Production Planner Opportunity at Babcock International: Shape National Defence from Plymouth

Are you a meticulous planner with a passion for impactful projects? Babcock International is seeking a dedicated Production Planner to join their esteemed team at the historic Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth, Devon. This is a unique chance to contribute directly to national defence, a role that offers both professional fulfillment and a tangible sense of purpose. With a competitive salary of £38,084 plus comprehensive benefits, this permanent, full-time position (35 hours per week) is an excellent opportunity for career growth within a company that has been at the forefront of defence for over a century.

What Makes This Role Stand Out?

This isn't just another planning role; it's an opportunity to be integral to projects that shape national security. As a Production Planner, you will:

  • Contribute to National Security: Play a vital role in delivering projects that are crucial for the UK's defence capabilities.
  • Develop Your Skills: Work in a dynamic, complex environment that fosters continuous learning and professional development. You'll gain invaluable experience in project management within a high-stakes sector.
  • Build a Career with Purpose: Align your career with a mission that matters, working for an organisation committed to creating a safe and secure world.
  • Collaborate and Influence: Engage closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, leveraging your planning expertise to drive successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities and What You'll Be Doing Day-to-Day:

Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring projects run smoothly and efficiently. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Analysing and interpreting work specifications to precisely meet customer requirements.
  • Ensuring all work elements are effectively linked and compliant with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Managing emergent or additional work to maintain project timelines and schedules.
  • Proactively identifying and managing enablement risks, and facilitating crucial lookahead reviews.
  • Cultivating strong relationships with clients and adeptly resolving technical requirements.

What We're Looking For in a Candidate:

To thrive in this role, you'll need a combination of technical understanding and strong interpersonal skills. Essential experience includes:

  • Excellent Communication Skills: The ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders is paramount.
  • Project Management Awareness: A solid understanding of project management tools and their application throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Project Delivery Framework Knowledge: Familiarity with project delivery frameworks and core project management principles.
  • Planning and Production Systems Proficiency: Knowledge of project planning, lifecycle processes, and proficiency in Planning, Estimating, and Production Systems. Experience with SAP is a desirable bonus.

In terms of qualifications, a Minimum Level 3 qualification in engineering, project, or construction management (or equivalent relevant experience) is required. While not essential, an APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) would be a significant advantage.

Important Considerations for Candidates:

This role requires the successful candidate to achieve and maintain **Security Check (SC) security clearance**. Due to the nature of national security roles, eligibility may be influenced by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and residency status. Candidates are encouraged to review the UK Government's guidance on security vetting for detailed information.
