INTRODUCTION TO ROLE

The placement is 12-week internship for PhD students in Biomedical Engineering, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Chemical Engineering or a related field. The intern will be based in the Systems Medicine team, which specialises in constructing quantitative systems pharmacology models to support the development of the next generation of safe and effective drugs for patients. The ideal candidate will be familiar with quantitative systems models or similar models. Their project will involve implementing and extending an existing model, incorporating experimental data where possible, to expand its predictive capabilities. In their role, the candidate will also have the opportunity to communicate their research through oral and/or poster presentations.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Extend a mechanistic model for a hematological oncology application.

- Incorporate experimental data into the model.

- Use model simulation to answer research questions.

- Communicate findings in oral and/or poster presentations to cross-functional audience.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

- Enrolled in a PhD program in a relevant discipline such as Biomedical Engineering, Computational biology, applied mathematics, chemical engineering or a related field.

- Strong mathematical background and experience with modeling using ODEs.

- Programming experience with modeling and simulation tools, e.g., MATLAB, Python, and R.

- Knowledge of oncology modelling is a plus.

- Enthusiasm for collaboration in cross-functional teams and public speaking.
