The role

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to join a project looking at the issue of counterfeiting in tablets.  

This project aims to understand how a novel mass spectrometry process can be used to screen tabletted medicines to protect the public from potentially harmful fake medicines.

The appointee will join a diverse and impactful School in an internationally recognised University with a growing global reputation in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry.  

About you

The successful candidate will have a degree level chemistry qualification and prior experience of laboratory work.  They must be able to work safely in a chemistry laboratory with awareness of writing risk assessments and COSHH documentation.  They must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, and it is essential that they have experience in mass spectrometry and specifically ambient ionisation mass spectrometry (preferably using an atmospheric solids analysis probe system). An understanding of numerical data analysis will be an advantage as will experience of writing scientific reports. 

The post is offered full-time. The post-holder will need to be present at the University’s Stag Hill campus to undertake laboratory work for at least 4 days/week.
