About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented Researcher to join the Driving the Electrical Revolution Industrialisation Centre at the University of Nottingham and contribute to the Power Electronics, Machines and Drives Research Group (PEMC). Your research will focus on electrical machines, drives, design, materials, thermal management, control, and testing. The purpose of the role is to contribute to projects with key industrial partners in the field of electrical machines. Knowledge in topics related to testing electrical machines, drives and materials are required.
About the Team
The PEMC institute has grown exponentially and now has over 200 members, 24 academics and circa 130 PhD students, researchers, and engineers. The group offers state-of-the-art facilities spanning 3500m², capable of handling up to 5MW for construction and testing. Our team is world leading in advanced electrical machines design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing. The role holder will become part of the team working in this state-of-the-art facility for advanced electrical machines for power generation, marine, aerospace and automotive industries.
About You
Candidates should have a Masters (or equivalent) in engineering or a related subject area, with a major component in electrical machines. The ability to work in a team and lead and collaborate actively and professionally with industrial partners is essential. Here are some examples of the type of expertise we are looking for, however this list is not exhaustive and exclusive:
• Previous experience in a research environment.
• Experience with experimental testing of electrical machines.
• Proven research skills with excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex information.
• Ability to apply finite element packages, (ex. ANSYS, Magnet, JMAG) to the design and analysis of different type of electrical machines.
• Ability to assess and organise resource requirements and deploy effectively.
• Experience of management of research projects, including liaison with sponsors.
• Self-motivated and ability to work with minimum supervision.

Additional Information
The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed term contract for 2 years. Job share arrangements may be considered.
