We have an exciting fixed-term opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated self-starter to join the equine epidemiology team of the Veterinary Epidemiology, Economics and Public Health Group. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of a Horserace Betting Levy Board-funded project that aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the former racehorse rehoming sector and explore factors that influence a former racehorse’s suitability for a second career and/or successful rehome. The postholder will be required to liaise closely with key stakeholders across the equestrian industry. This project provides a unique opportunity to contribute to industry-led Thoroughbred welfare initiatives and inform relevant strategies and policies.
Our ideal candidate will have a postgraduate degree with a strong research component and practical experience of conducting observational epidemiological research. Strong quantitative data analysis skills and applied understanding of epidemiological principles are required. They must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and be comfortable liaising with stakeholders across the equestrian industry. We are looking for a pro-active team player with knowledge of the UK equine industry, including racing. In return, we offer a supportive environment in a well-established research team working on a variety of high-priority Thoroughbred welfare projects.
We offer a generous reward package including:
• Competitive and attractive pension package (University Superannuation Scheme)
o Generous 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays and concessionary days) pro-rata
o On site cafés and restaurants
o Free membership to the Fitness and Wellbeing Centre located at both campuses.
