This permanent, full-time role offers a competitive salary ranging from £54,952 to £64,738, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your financial wellbeing, personal health, and family needs.

At the heart of this role is the responsibility for the entire lifecycle of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems within the Perth Control Room. You will be instrumental in designing, configuring, and implementing control systems for the electricity network, playing a crucial part in ensuring a safe, reliable, and efficient energy supply.

Key Responsibilities and Advantages for Candidates:

  • Full Lifecycle Ownership: You will have the opportunity to manage SCADA systems from initial development and preparation through testing, commissioning, maintenance, and upgrades. This offers a holistic and deeply involved experience, allowing you to see projects through from conception to successful operation.
  • Critical Infrastructure Impact: This role is vital to the 24/7 operation of the Transmission Control Centre. Your work directly contributes to a safe and reliable interface for the electricity network, providing a tangible sense of purpose and impact.
  • Data Integration and System Advancement: You will be responsible for integrating operational data from the transmission asset base, feeding critical information to the GB System Operator. This involves understanding and adhering to Transmission License, Grid Code, and STC obligations, fostering a deep understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Data Historian Management: Maintaining and securing the PI Data Historian System is a key aspect of this role, offering experience with essential data management tools for critical infrastructure.
  • Technical Guidance and Knowledge Sharing: Providing technical guidance to both control room and field engineers will allow you to hone your communication and leadership skills, becoming a go-to expert within the team.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Technical Skill Development: While previous SCADA experience is an advantage, the role also welcomes candidates with a strong technical background in electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic systems. This presents a fantastic opportunity to transition into or deepen your expertise in SCADA within the vital energy sector.
  • Understanding Complex Networks: A key aspect of this role is developing an understanding of the Transmission network and proactively designing new displays for safe operation. This fosters strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, contributing to a more robust and efficient energy infrastructure.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Engagement: The ability to communicate effectively with a diverse audience, including internal teams, Project Managers, National Grid, and external contractors, is essential. This role will significantly enhance your stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional Development: The requirement for a recognised Engineering qualification (or working towards one) highlights SSE's commitment to professional growth. This role can support your continued learning and qualification journey.
  • Career in the Net Zero Transition: SSE is at the forefront of the net zero transition, investing significantly in green energy. As a SCADA Development Engineer, you will be directly contributing to building the infrastructure for a sustainable energy future, aligning your career with a critical global objective.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Beyond the salary, SSE offers a wide array of flexible benefits, including discounts on healthcare and gym memberships, wellbeing support services like a free online GP and counselling, interest-free loans for technology and travel, and generous family entitlements. This demonstrates a commitment to employee welfare and work-life balance.

This role offers a compelling blend of technical challenge, career development, and the chance to make a significant contribution to a company shaping the future of energy.
