The Role

We are recruiting for the position of a Senior Data Engineer in SSE's Group Technology Services (GTS) Data Services team. This team serves as a central hub within GTS, supporting teams, projects, and platforms by enabling access to trustworthy, timely, and well-governed data. We embrace DevOps practices to ensure our stakeholders benefit from fully supported and maintained data solutions.

You Will

- Act at a senior level within the data engineering / data solutions space as a key member of SEEs GTS Data Services team.

- Be involved in the refinement of business requirements and the design and development of necessary solutions.

- Operate in a senior capacity on various projects and initiatives. This will mainly relate to data engineering activities such as the design, development, implementation and maintenance of efficient, reusable and reliable data pipelines in an Azure environment.

- Given that GTS Data Service team is looking to provide holistic data solutions then activities may extend into analysis and use of data (e.g. data visualisation for business intelligence); investigating machine learning capabilities etc.

- Advise and assist team members, ensuring best practice, peer reviewing work to ensure quality, consistency, reusability etc.

You Have

- Long-term experience working at a senior level in data engineering; involvement in end-to-end development and delivery across a variety of solutions.

- Demonstrable experience of using the Databricks platform for building data solutions and data products. Suitably senior experience with an alternative enterprise level Data and Analytics platform may be considered if you have extensive experience in Python and SQL.

- The ability to carry out your own tasks to a high standard as well as assisting other team members and colleagues to ensure the quality of work and adherence to agreed patterns and standards.

- Great communication skills and the ability to represent GTS Data Services at a senior level. The ability to work with business stakeholders to arrive at the optimum solution for any particular use case.

- Senior level experience in other facets necessary for solution development and maintenance such as testing, CI/CD, monitoring, optimisation, cost management etc.
