The European Beauty & Wellbeing (Skin Care and Hair) Research and Development Team is looking for an exceptional Senior Formulation Scientist to join our team to contribute to the success of our global and local brands. Ask yourself “Am I a self-starter with ability to think on my feet, flexibility to adapt to different scenarios, and who wants to deliver great products to the market?” JOB PURPOSE This exciting role comprises working across all of Unilever EU hair & skin care brands to provide formulation and technical support to enable innovation projects, and to re-develop existing products to meet ever-changing EU regulatory needs. RESPONSIBILITIES Lead Hair & Skin Category Innovation Projects, specifically in the development and formulation of new products and in the re-development of existing products to meet regulatory requirements or for 5S cost savings. The primary focus of this role will be Skin Care. Formulation development and recommendation for a wide range of products and formats. Development involves formulation proposal, design and run experiments for validation and report, ensuring compliance with COSHH, GLP and SOP requirements. Work with the processing team to scale up and adapt bench-scale processes to pilot and manufacturing scale. As TPL, provide leadership for technical aspects of project development, including project management activities, holding others accountable, ensure project delivery on agreed technical targets and support decision making process for product development related matters Project & technical risk management, ensuring technical action standards are met at key decision points Prepare and characterize products at lab through a wide range of characterization techniques. Statistical analysis of complex data sets to deliver key product insights for innovation or cost savings purposes Clearly communicate results and recommendations, via presentations and formal written reports. Influence stakeholder decision making. Effective collaboration within cross-functional teams in different geographies, across multiple projects. Develop technical mastery of hair & skin care formulations; technologies, hair& skin science, measurement understanding and translating marketing ideas into robust technical briefs. The use of digital IT systems to enable local R&D, regulatory and safety teams to process formulations is a key part of this role. Establish networks and lead communication with relevant external collaborators, e.g. suppliers, industry associations or equivalent, to understand information on product/consumer trend. ALL ABOUT YOU Minimum of a degree (or equivalent) in a Science or Engineering Minimum of five years experience working in a laboratory Project management experience Experience with B&W categories is desirable Experience of working with suppliers is an added bonus Great people skills; building and maintaining relationships. Ability to work well both independently and as part of a wider cross-functional team.
