Who we are:

Discovery Sciences is a multi-faceted department that drives early drug discovery across AstraZenecas global Research & Development portfolio. Mechanistic Biology and Profiling (part of Discovery Sciences), is a global, multidisciplinary department responsible for mechanism-of-action studies and compound profiling in support of the Oncology, Cardiovascular and Respiratory & Immunology portfolios.

What youll do:

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated scientist with expertise in mass spectrometry to play a pivotal role in covalent drug discovery projects within AstraZeneca R&D in Cambridge, UK.

Accountabilities:

In this laboratory-based position, you will be responsible for utilising and developing biochemical assays, primarily employing mass spectrometry endpoints, to profile covalent compounds, support chemical design, and advance drug discovery initiatives. Operating within a matrix organisation, you will collaboratively deliver high-quality data from covalent compound screening to facilitate project progression and present findings in both group and project team meetings. You will provide technical expertise across multiple drug projects simultaneously within a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

Essential Skills/Experience:

PhD or equivalent industrial experience

Developing, validating and running mass spectrometry and biochemical assays and using recombinant protein

Experience measuring kinetics in biochemical reactions

Strong team player with good written and oral communication skills

Ability to tackle challenges creatively delivering innovative solutions

Desirable Skills/Experience:

Experience in pharma/biotech

Experience working with covalent modification of proteins
