British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a SENIOR TECHNOLOGIST E-LIQUIDS PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT – FIXED TERM (MATERNITY COVER) in Southampton

 

What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?  

The key objective of this role is to provide practical and technical support in an exciting area of product development in e-Liquids Discovery as part of BATs ambition for breakthrough innovation in vaping.

 

Responsibilities include e-liquid preparation, analytical work activities and generation of test protocols and reports, as allocated, using defined work practices or procedures. Engaging with external research companies and test houses, review and production of reports summarising findings. Category specific product sourcing for analysis and understanding, sample management and tracking.

 

Tasks are achieved by thorough understanding of product chemistry, analytical science, and techniques relevant to the analysis of consumer use products such as e-liquids and electronic cigarettes, aerosols and all materials associated with the construction or use of this type of products.

 

Experience and understanding of consumer testing are preferable, including a responsibility with sourcing competitor products. Role holder should have an efficient and organised approach to practical activities, time and data management and reporting as well as an approachable and collaborative working style.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Formulate and build e-liquids on laboratory scaleConduct analytical work activities and generate test protocols and reports, as allocated, using defined work practices or procedures by thorough understanding of principles and concepts.Engage with external research companies and test houses, review and produce reports to summarise findings.Develop new working procedures, methods or working practices for management approval in response to technical challenges defined by management, as well as generating technical reports, publications and presentations.Sample management, tracking and database set upIdentification and sourcing of relevant category specific samples for analysisExploit opportunities for standardization in process and business systems for continuous improvement and identify and suggest changes to operating procedures and working practices for subsequent approval.Experienced Senior Technologists will develop new working procedures, methods or working practices for management approval in response to technical challenges defined by management, as well as generating technical reports, publications and presentations. Experience Required

Good technical understanding of e-liquids chemistry, active ingredients used and associated scienceRelevant technical experience resulting in a detailed knowledge of good laboratory practice, principles of e-liquid sample preparation & analysis.Work experience in Data Management and Basic StatisticsGood PC skillsGood verbal and writing capabilities in EnglishGood analytical skills, data-affinity, high attention to detailAwareness of product development processes desirable

 

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

Ability to work self-sufficiently and under pressure maintaining flexibilityStrong organisational skills.Structured approach to work, able to prioritise & self-manage.

 

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

University degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or associated field, or equivalent work experience.

 

BENEFICIAL 

Experience of making e-liquids in the labSample and product quality testing.Experience with consumer testing.Relevant experience in analytical techniques.
