Join us as aSenior Software Engineer at Barclays, where you'll drive the development of high-quality, scalable software solutions that enhance the customer experience and power our business forward. As part of the Customer Care Technology team, youll work with cutting-edge technologies like React, Java, Golang, and TypeScript, and leverage AWS cloud platform to build robust systems.

In this role, you will:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver customer-centric solutions.Lead the development of reliable, scalable applications.Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous improvement.Ensure high code quality through best practices and code reviews.Stay current with emerging technologies to drive innovation.

To be successful in this role, youll need the following:

Excelling in at least one core language: Java/Spring Boot, TypeScript/React/Angular, Golang, or Python.Strong problem-solving skills and ability to simplify complex concepts.Ownership mindset and commitment to engineering excellence.Experience mentoring and guiding engineering teams.Clear communication across technical and business audiences.Ability to shape solutions that align with strategic goals.Confidence navigating and integrating multiple systems.

Other highly valued skills include:

Expertise in software architecture, design patterns, and secure coding best practises.Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and CI/CD pipelines.Proficiency in SQL/NoSQL databases and version control systems like Git.Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide projects and teams.Adaptability to new technologies and evolving project needs.Ability to optimise performance and design user-friendly, intuitive applications.

The successful candidate can either be based in Knutsford (Radbroke Hall) or Glasgow Campus.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimised for performance.Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organizations technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Contribute or set strategy, drive requirements and make recommendations for change. Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies/processes; deliver continuous improvements and escalate breaches of policies/procedures.Be a subject matter expert within own discipline and will guide technical direction. Lead collaborative, multi-year assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments.
