Sustainability Advisor (Heathrow Airport, GB)

Job at UK Power Networks in Hounslow, Greater London, TW6

Opportunity Review: Sustainability Advisor at UK Power Networks Services

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Sustainability Advisor to join the UKPN Services team based at their Heathrow office. Reporting to the Lead Sustainability Advisor, this permanent role offers a chance to significantly contribute to the environmental and social responsibility goals of a leading network distributor and energy consulting company.

Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Impactful Role: You will be instrumental in shaping UK Power Networks Services' journey towards becoming a leader in environmental and social responsibility. This involves providing crucial sustainability and environmental advice across various project teams.
  • Career Development: The position offers a structured pathway for growth, with the opportunity to support the implementation of significant sustainability initiatives like PAS 2080 and Science-based Target Initiative. You'll gain hands-on experience in carbon accounting, Life Cycle Assessments, and social value reporting.
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Beyond a competitive salary of £65,241 plus outer London allowance, candidates can expect a generous benefits package. This includes 25 days of annual leave, reservist leave, a robust personal pension plan with significant employer contributions (8% or 10% match), a tenancy loan deposit scheme, and various tax-efficient benefit schemes like Cycle to Work and Green Car Leasing. Additional perks include occupational health support, retail discounts, discounted gym memberships, and an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Industry Exposure: This role provides valuable exposure to the energy market, its technologies, and applications, with a specific focus on the electricity distribution industry.
  • Structured Learning: You will have the opportunity to develop and deliver sustainability and environmental SHE training, enhancing your own communication and training skills.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

  • Site-Based Role: This is a site-based position, meaning there is no option for flexible or remote working. Candidates should be comfortable with this commitment and reside within a commutable distance to the Heathrow office.
  • Reporting Structure: While you will have autonomy in your day-to-day tasks, the role reports directly to the Lead Sustainability Advisor. This suggests a collaborative environment where guidance and direction are provided.
  • Client-Facing Responsibilities: A significant part of the role involves meeting client reporting requirements and providing evidence of commitments and achievements. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential.
  • Technical Expertise: A strong foundation in environmental management, carbon accounting, or sustainability is required, with specific knowledge of embodied carbon tools and Life Cycle Assessments being highly advantageous. Familiarity with "Oneclick" LCA software is a plus.
  • Project Lifecycle Involvement: You will be involved in projects from their inception, including reviewing tender responses, which requires an understanding of the procurement and bidding processes within the infrastructure or construction sectors.
  • Proactive Approach: The role encourages research into new technologies and alternative approaches, implying a need for a proactive, innovative, and forward-thinking mindset.

Guiding Your Career Path:

This Sustainability Advisor position is an excellent stepping stone for professionals looking to deepen their expertise in corporate sustainability within the essential utilities sector. If you are passionate about driving environmental change, possess strong analytical and communication skills, and are eager to contribute to a company's social value agenda, this role offers a rewarding and impactful career trajectory. The comprehensive benefits and opportunities for professional development make it an attractive prospect for individuals seeking to make a tangible difference.
