Teaching Fellow in European and International History

University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit a Teaching Fellow in European and International History in School of International Studies

Your Responsibility

Your key responsibilities include:

To plan and manage own teaching and provide advice as a member of the IS teaching team within the IS UG / PG programme of study, in a variety of settings including small group tutorials as well as lectures.Identify the learning needs of students and ensure that the content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives of various courses.To develop a national reputation in teaching through contributions to scholarly debate and discussion in the field of Imperial History, British and or European History, and political thought, including a contribution to writing up research findings for publication in leading journals and dissemination at national/international conferences etc.To identify and investigate issues which relate to teaching and learning which may arise in the broad area of International Studies both individually and/or collaboratively.To contribute to the effective management and administration of the School by performing duties allocated by the Head of IS. This may include responsibility for administrative duties in areas such as admissions, time-tabling, examinations, and assessment of progress and student attendance.

About You

We are now looking for a talented and promising scholar to join our School as a teaching fellow in European and International History. This is a temporary position for one year, available from September 1st 2025 or soon after, to primarily support teaching delivery. 

For this position, candidates should have completed (or be close to completing) a PhD in History with teaching and research interests in European and International History, particularly across the 18th to 20th centuries. They should also be able to contribute to the broader interdisciplinarity of international studies.

Applicants must evidence the ability to teach core courses in European History (particularly the 18th century onwards) and be well-positioned to contribute to and/or to convene specialist courses such as on the history of political thought and the British Empire in a global context. The role holder will take responsibility for maintaining high teaching standards and contribute generally to the development of teaching, teaching methods and assessments in International Studies.

The successful candidate must be able to teach courses at the undergraduate and post graduate level and effectively supervise undergraduate and Masters level dissertations.

Your Remuneration, Benefits and SupportThe post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China for a period of 1 year starting September 2025.

Salary will be within the range of RMB350,343 to RMB477,481 per annum depending on skills and experience (salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance).  In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.
