Are you looking for a career that is not only challenging and intellectually stimulating but also directly contributes to national security? Babcock International, a leader in delivering complex engineering solutions, is offering an exceptional opportunity for aspiring professionals to join their team as a Trainee Nuclear Control Engineer at their prestigious Devonport site near Plymouth, Devon. This role offers a competitive salary of £40,098.00 plus benefits, in a full-time, permanent capacity.

This is more than just a job; it's a pathway to becoming a specialist in a critical and highly sought-after field. As a Trainee Nuclear Control Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the operational readiness of the Royal Navy's nuclear submarines, a vital component of national defence. You will gain invaluable hands-on experience, work alongside seasoned experts, and develop a profound understanding of high-voltage electrical systems and nuclear safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities and Development Opportunities:

  • Contribute to National Security: Play a direct role in maintaining essential services for nuclear submarines and supporting nuclear facilities across a vital estate.
  • Master High-Voltage Systems: Gain in-depth knowledge and practical experience in managing and monitoring extensive high-voltage distribution networks, including control rooms and substations.
  • Ensure Operational Continuity: Uphold the safe and reliable supply of electrical power to nuclear submarines, a critical aspect of their mission readiness.
  • Develop Safety Expertise: Undertake safe switching duties for routine operations, commissioning, and maintenance, while supporting the testing of crucial backup systems.
  • Career Growth: This trainee position is designed for development, with the expectation that upon qualification, you will receive a significant RA120 allowance (40%) for night shifts, reflecting the demanding and essential nature of the role.

What Babcock Offers You:

  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: Beyond a competitive salary, Babcock provides a generous holiday allowance, a matched contribution pension scheme with life assurance, access to a Digital GP, annual health checks, and nutritional consultations.
  • Employee Well-being: Benefit from an employee share scheme, shopping savings portal, and an employee assistance programme that supports physical, mental, and financial well-being.
  • Professional Development: Babcock supports your career progression with payment of professional fees and excellent development opportunities.
  • Work-Life Balance Initiatives: Explore options for flexible working, and take advantage of unique benefits like Holiday Trading and 'Be Kind Day' for volunteering.

What We're Looking For:

While direct experience in certain areas is advantageous, Babcock is keen to develop talent. The essential qualification for this role is a Level 3/ONC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering. Desirable experience includes knowledge of safety procedures for HV and LV switching operations, experience promoting safe control of work on HV systems, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications.

Important Considerations:

  • Security Clearance: This role requires the successful candidate to be a sole UK national and to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance. Eligibility for this clearance may be influenced by factors such as place of birth, nationality, and residency history.
  • Shift Work: The role operates on a full-time basis (35 hours per week) with a rotating shift pattern covering days, backs, and nights.

This Trainee Nuclear Control Engineer position at Babcock International is an exceptional launchpad for a secure and impactful career. If you are driven, possess the foundational qualifications, and are ready to commit to a role of significant national importance, we encourage you to explore this unique opportunity.
