The Royal College of Art (RCA) is seeking an outstanding Tutor (Research) in Ceramics & Glass to join the School of Arts and Humanities on a 0.2 FTE fixed-term basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to research and teaching within the Ceramics & Glass programme and the wider Applied Arts disciplines.

About the School & Programme

The School of Arts and Humanities bridges fine and applied arts with curating, writing, and design history, fostering critical engagement with cultural and technological advancements. Within this, Ceramics & Glass explores material-led practices at the convergence of art, design, craft, and emerging technologies. The programme provides a dynamic interface for students to question, experiment, and respond to contemporary material, cultural, and global challenges.

The Role

The successful candidate will be a practitioner-researcher in ceramic and glass disciplines, bringing enthusiasm and commitment to teaching, research, and curriculum development. Working closely with the Head of Programme, they will contribute to developing critical, contextual, and theoretical frameworks for Applied Arts study. The role will also involve engagement with research clusters and relevant international networks in ceramics, glass, and broader applied arts fields.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct high-quality research at 3 and 4 level** within the Applied Arts disciplines and develop a five-year research plan aligned with RCA's research clusters.

Contribute to curriculum development, including designing new pedagogical methods across MA, MFA, PGR, Executive Education, and micro-credential programmes.

Supervise and support MA and PhD students through lectures, workshops, seminars, and critiques.

Engage with hybrid and blended learning approaches to enhance teaching delivery.

Undertake administrative responsibilities related to teaching and programme development.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

A strong research profile in ceramics, glass, or applied arts.

Experience in teaching and curriculum development in higher education.

A broad network of international practitioners and researchers in ceramics, glass, and related disciplines.

A commitment to expanding contextual and theoretical frameworks in applied arts education.

The successful candidate will need to be available to start immediately.
