About Us

G4S Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC) cares for children aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The children in our care can be vulnerable and challenging, with a wide range of complex social and emotional needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for children to develop their life skills and address their previous behaviours. We aim to support change and learning.

We strive to help every child feel safe, giving them an opportunity to heal from trauma and feel supported in developing a more positive identity. We ensure our children have equal access and opportunity for change and are celebrated for their strengths. We want the children in our care to leave better equipped for life emotionally, mentally, physically, and socially. We aim to support the constructive resettlement and transition of our children, whether returning to the community or moving to other custodial settings. We are committed to working in partnership with them and their families, significant others and wider community organisations, to develop a quality regime at the centre.

About the Role

We are now expanding our Education team and we are looking for a Vocational Cover Tutor.

As part of the Education Team, you will play an integral part of a childs learning at Oakhill Secure Training Centre to provide and deliver aspiring educational outcomes. Oakhill STC is a fast paced, complex and challenging environment and as such the successful candidate needs to be resilient, innovative, passionate and work collaboratively with other professionals in a modern Educational setting. Together, as a team, we will empower children to take ownership of their own learning journeys and it is our hope that they will go on to make decisions and life choices that will lead to increasingly positive and productive lives.

Not only will you be a Vocational Cover Tutor, but a mentor to young lives who will develop transparent and collaborative ways of working to engender openness, trust and inclusion with the children. The regime at the centre needs to balance safety, safeguarding, health, wellbeing and learning and development opportunities for the children.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children. You will motivate, inspire and lead them to success, despite the significant challenges of a complex environment, but also give them hope for the future via Education and Learning.

Some of the key responsibilities of this role are:

To teach a range of vocational qualifications as directed, to a Good or Outstanding ofsted rated level. To develop the curriculum in line with national requirements, local community needs, and the needs of employment. To prepare and monitor appropriate syllabuses, schemes of work, lesson plans, assignments, assessment plans and learning outcomes in line with G4S and awarding body requirements. To provide regular feedback to young people and to give group and individual tutorial support to enable them to achieve maximum benefit from their course or programme. To compile and maintain course and young people records. To follow all processes relating to qualifications and examinations, including registrations and submissions to validating bodies, and liaison with the Oakhill STC exams officer, moderations and external verifiers in accordance with G4S policy.

The duties and responsibilities listed within this job description are not exhaustive and the job holder is expected to accept reasonable alterations and additional tasks of a similar level that may be necessary from time to time.
