Institute of Development Studies

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) provides world-class research, learning and teaching that can change the knowledge, actions and leadership required for fairer and more sustainable development on a global scale.
Through fair and sustainable partnerships, we work with governments, philanthropic foundations, non-governmental organizations, academics and civil society to transform approaches to progressive social, political and economic change in ways that ultimately make a difference to people’s lives.
Working at IDS offers unique and exciting opportunities. IDS is the residence of researchers, knowledge workers, support staff and approximately 200 students.
IDS has a sense of community and level of employee participation, which we are very proud of. With the help of community days, lunchtime seminars, research days, annual reviews, staff committees, and research and teaching forums, there are various spaces to share ideas and participate in the life of IDS. Here, we also have a social life, including our restaurant, common room, our own IDS band and annual pantomime.
