It All Began in Mozambique, Land of Intense Sun, Fertile Soil... and African Bird’s Eye Chillies, Also Called PERi-PERi. These small yet potent chillies have been a staple in local Mozambican cuisine for centuries. Later, the Portuguese introduced a dash of lemon and a burst of garlic to create the original PERi-PERi sauce. This versatile sauce found its way onto almost every dish, especially as the perfect marinade for grilling spatchcocked chicken over an open flame.
Soon after, two friends in Johannesburg had their first taste of PERi-PERi chicken, giving birth to the Nando's brand. As years passed, more restaurants opened, offering flavorful Pittas and Fino options. Today, the Nando's PERi-PERi you've come to adore still pays tribute to its origins and vibrant heritage.
