AI Engineer - Salary £39,200 to £72,900 (depending on location, skills, experience and qualifications) Are you passionate about building cutting-edge AI systems that transform how businesses operate? Do you thrive on deploying scalable, production-ready GenAI solutions in cloud-native environments? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you! An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our high-profile Insurance, Wealth, and Retirement Analytics Team (based in York, Norwich & Bristol), which is helping to shape the future of insurance through advanced AI and engineering. Aviva is investing heavily in AI as a strategic capability and our team is recognized as a centre of excellence, delivering intelligent systems that enhance decision-making, operations and performance within Aviva. A bit about the job: You will join a dynamic team responsible for designing, building, and deploying generative AI solutions across the business. This includes developing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, integrating large language models (LLMs), and deploying services in a secure, scalable cloud environment. You’ll work with one of the richest insurance datasets in the world, applying modern AI engineering practices to all stages of the development lifecycle—from ingestion and embedding to deployment and monitoring. You’ll collaborate with product owners, architects, and engineers to deliver enterprise-ready GenAI solutions that are robust, compliant, and impactful to our customers and colleagues across the business. Skills and experience we’re looking for: Strong experience in GenAI, RAG and Agentic architectures, including popular frameworks like LangChain and LiteLLM. Expertise in Python, JavaScript, or Rust, coupled with experience deploying applications through frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or React, within containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes. Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and infrastructure-as-code. Ability to work in regulated environments, with a strong focus on security, compliance, and privacy-preserving AI. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-specialists and collaborate across cross-functional teams. What you’ll get for this role: Our purpose - with you today, for a better tomorrow – is a promise we make to our colleagues too. And one of the ways we live up to that promise is by investing in you.
