The Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT) at Aston University is a world-leading research centre, managing over 60 externally funded research projects supported by the UK Government, European Commission, industry, and charities. AIPT’s success is driven by a dedicated team of research project managers who support project implementation and foster a collaborative environment for research grant development.
To oversee the implementation of the EU Doctoral Network POSTDIGITAL Plus, funded by the Horizon Europe Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) with UK candidates supported by the EPSRC, and to assist in managing AIPT’s diverse portfolio of projects. AiPT is seeking a Research Project Manager with additional focus on the development of new income-generating opportunities through research proposal writing. This position is ideal for a candidate with in-depth knowledge of the UK and international research funding landscape, extensive experience in managing large-scale collaborative research projects, and a proven track record in research grant writing. Strong knowledge of EU Framework Programmes and audit requirements is essential.
If successful, you will have substantial experience in managing complex, multi-partner projects, including budget oversight and financial management. You will be creating and implementing communication strategies, coordinating large-scale national and international events, and working closely with partners to meet project objectives. A key part of your role will involve identifying new funding opportunities, building relationships with potential partners, and leading the development of high-quality research proposals to secure funding.
You also should have excellent organisational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities, and comfortable working in a fast-paced research environment. You will need to be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. A collaborative approach, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to navigate unpredictability will be essential for this role.

The salary being offered for this role is below the minimum threshold for required to sponsor new applicants to the Skilled Worker route. However, Aston University may be able to sponsor the successful candidate if they:
