Commercial Risk Claims

Our Commercial Risk Claims teams help clients protect their businesses in a world increasingly exposed to new and emerging risks – from extreme weather events to the impact of AI. Aon’s claims teams support clients by:

Providing pre-loss support, helping them navigate potential risk scenariosDelivering risk management advice and servicesHelping clients make better-informed decisions about their risk transfer strategies

In the post-loss environment, we assist clients in presenting and managing their claims. We support them throughout the lifecycle of the claim, advocating on their behalf to help achieve the most appropriate settlement outcomes. We also assist clients with their insurance buying decisions, aiming to optimise the balance between risk transfer and risk retention through detailed valuation and analysis. This enables a tailored approach to risk transfer, supported by our extensive risk management capabilities.

Your role as a Commercial Risk Claims Graduate Apprentice

You will join as a Claims Support Specialist, playing a key role in supporting clients throughout the claims process, helping the team manage expectations, and delivering great outcomes for our clients. You will:

Be embedded within the UK Commercial Risk Claims teamBe supported by colleagues across all areas of UK ClaimsGain exposure to the different business areas we support across the UK

Some of your colleagues will have previously completed the Aon Apprenticeship Programme, while others will bring many years of experience in the insurance market – all committed to supporting your development through coaching and on-the-job learning.

 

Prepare to make an immediate impact. Our structured training programme will build your knowledge of Aon’s claims proposition and commercial insurance, while supporting you through your qualification.

 

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be supported to:

Develop your professional and technical skillsBuild meaningful relationships with colleagues, insurers and clientsLay strong foundations for your future career progression

What the day will look like

From day one, you will be a key part of the team. Typical responsibilities may include:

Supporting the delivery of client-facing claims activitiesAssisting in the day-to-day handling and administration of client claimsCarrying out a range of administrative tasks to support the claims processBuilding strong working relationships with insurers and other key partnersSupporting our attendance at industry and networking events where appropriate

Your Development

As an Aon Graduate Apprentice you will be enrolled onto our development programme when you join. This programme is built around 3 core elements:

Business learning – on the job learning and experiences giving you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of the team and solution line you have joined Centralised learning - UK apprentices complete in an Aon Induction, monthly webinars, business skills training and workshops; all designed to help you develop your knowledge of Aon, build your confidence and your network across our businessProfessional Qualifications – we want you to be as successful as possible, so we’ll fully support your study towards your MA (Hons) Business Management for Financial Services Graduate Apprenticeship through Heriot-Watt University. To support you as you study for your exams, you’ll receive paid study leave, plus an extensive range of study and tuition materials.

The objective of the 4-year degree is to develop general management knowledge and skills in the context of contemporary financial services organisations. The programme is structured so that essential foundational knowledge is provided in the early stages, and this can be built on during the learning that will take place in the workplace. The programme consists of 20% academic learning (one day per week) on campus or virtual, and 80% work-based learning at the Aon Glasgow office, with some exposure to the wider Aon office network.

 

Heriot-Watt University is a globally recognised institution with a strong heritage of working in partnership with industry. Founded in 1821, the University is a leader in work-based learning and delivers Graduate Apprenticeships that combine academic excellence with real-world business application, supporting employers to develop future-ready talent.

Your career beyond your Graduate Apprenticeship

When you join the Graduate Apprenticeship Programme at Aon, you become a permanent member of our team from day one. As you develop, the work you do will evolve and grow in responsibility, supporting your long‑term career progression. You will also have clear opportunities for advancement during your apprenticeship; colleagues typically receive their first promotion 18 to 24 months into their role, with further progression based on performance. Within our Commercial Risk business, you’ll find an exciting environment where you can learn, grow and be continually challenged throughout your career.

Entry Requirements:

SQA Highers at BBBB (over two sittings)A-Levels at BBCInternational Baccalaureate 29 pointsSQA HNC in a relevant subject (or a suitable Modern Apprenticeship) with B in the graded unitFoundation Apprenticeship in Business Skills in conjunction with other suitable qualifications, such as SQA Highers at BBBA combination of qualifications totalling 96 SCQF credits at level 6, or Minimum 108 UCAS points

To be eligible for this Graduate Apprenticeship, you must also meet the Scottish Government’s funding eligibility criteria which includes:

Currently residing in ScotlandHave lived in the UK for at least three years prior to the course start dateNot already hold a qualification at the same or higher level than the one being offered

What are we looking for?

Motivation and ambition – you will need to be able to articulate why you want a career in commercial riskCommercial awareness – this helps us to provide support and advice to our clients with clarity and confidencePassion and curiosity - understand the value of and be passionate about delivering excellent Client Service Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt your style for different groups of people

 

We recognise the value for our Early Career colleagues of being in the office environment from the beginning of their programme. As a new apprentice, you will spend the first 6 months based in the office to support your learning, development, and progression. This will enable you access to support from managers, collaborate with colleagues as well as grow your network across Aon. After completing this initial training period, you will then have the opportunity to work more flexibly, spending at least 3 to 4 days face to face in the Aon office or with clients.

 

Right to Work

Our apprentices are on permanent contracts from day one. We welcome applications from candidates who have their own right to work within the UK where you can maintain and demonstrate your right to work throughout the duration of your employment. This may include pre-settled or settled status from the EU Settlement Scheme – or if you have applied and you are waiting for a decision.

Application ReviewWe process applications on a rolling basis, moving candidates forward as they complete each stage.Every application is carefully reviewed by our team (not by AI).Due to the high volume of interest, this stage can take up to two weeks.Please note: We do not review CVs or cover letters at this point. Video InterviewPreparation matters, so you’ll have up to 10 days (240 hours) from receiving your invitation to record and submit your video interview.Rest assured: Every video interview is reviewed by a real member of our recruitment team, not an AI system.You’ll typically hear back from us within 2-3 weeks after submitting your interview, though times may vary depending on the number of applications. Assessment CentresOur assessment centres are held in person at the Aon office closest to the location you applied for.Please note: Due to the large number of applications, not every candidate who completes a video interview will be invited to an assessment centre.If selected, you’ll have 7-14 days’ notice to help you arrange any travel.We run a limited number of Assessment Centre so please make every effort to attend if invited. These will begin in February/March 2026.We reimburse reasonable travel costs (such as standard class train tickets). Flights and hotels are only covered if agreed in advance.At the assessment centre stage, your CV and cover letter will be shared with hiring managers.
