University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit an Associate Professor in Applied Psychology.

The University is undertaking the exciting process of establishing Psychology at UNNC. This is a move into a new discipline, but one which is related to sister disciplines in the Faculty, including psycholinguistics and health economics. We are looking to appoint an ambitious and talented leader of discipline to lead on this initiative. The role holder will be expected to make a significant leadership impact on the introduction of Psychology into the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and its development in research and teaching.

The successful candidate will be the first leader of Discipline in Psychology at UNNC and will pioneer the development of our Psychology programmes, at UG and PG level. They will be expected to lead a growing Psychology team and contribute to teaching and curriculum development for undergraduate and postgraduate Psychology programmes, to play a lead role in collaborative research projects and conduct ongoing original research and publications in Psychology.

Your Responsibility

Your key responsibilities include:

To provide academic and organisational leadership in the area of Psychology, by for example coordinating resources and teamwork, ensure the effective delivery of teaching and research, and agree objectives and work plans with the team.To lead the design, development and delivery of Psychology modules and programmes, including those new at various levels, in compliance with the quality standards and regulations; develop business cases based upon market intelligence and commercial knowledge.Be responsible for administrative duties in areas such as admissions, timetabling, examinations, student attendance, and represent the school on various committees and working groups in the wider University and outside of the University and managing or monitoring assets and budgets allocated as part of the role.To act as the principal investigator on major research projects within the area of Psychology. Investigate and devise new research methods, generate new research approaches and contribute generally to the development of thought and practice in the field of Psychology.To apply research results in public policy or commerce where there is a demonstrable benefit to the University, Faculty and School.

About You

PhD or equivalent in relevant subject area.Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex information. Proven ability to provide effective leadership and management of groups and teaching activities. Proven ability with demonstrated success in obtaining sources of funding, providing effective leadership, planning, and building, resourcing a team and delivering research results.  High analytical ability to facilitate conceptual thinking, innovation and creativity.Extensive track record of published research, development and delivery of teaching units, successful consultancy activities and/or delivery of specialist services to external customers/clientExtensive research and teaching experience with an established national and growing international reputation in the field of Psychology in higher educationExtensive experience in developing and devising new research programmes, models, techniques and methods. Proven record of promoting and maintaining collaborative links with industry/business/community.A record of leadership in Higher Education is a highly desirable characteristic.Experience of supervising PhD and Masters students and experience of teaching, tutorial or laboratory work at undergraduate and postgraduate level in an international English speaking institution are required.

Your Remuneration, Benefits and SupportThe successful candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract for up to 5 years, which may be extended by mutual agreement. Salary will be within the range of RMB 628,750 to RMB 772,893 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience (salary progression beyond this is subject to performance) and you will have a range of benefits and entitlements, including accommodation allowance, insurances, schooling support, home flight, relocation & repatriation support, and paid annual leave.
