ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN SPORT & EXERCISE (with initial responsibility as Academic Portfolio Lead for a period of three years).

Following several years of robust growth, the School of Human Sciences is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor in Sport & Exercise. This is a unique position that provides an excellent leadership opportunity to the right candidate who will be appointed as the Academic Portfolio Lead. For the initial three years of this appointment the successful candidate will provide leadership for the PE & Sport Science team. This includes line management of staff and to ensure that the portfolio runs smoothly and meets school, faculty, and university KPIs.

You will be joining a School and Faculty that is building a strong interdisciplinary and cross-professional approach to solving the grand challenges facing society. We are looking for colleagues who will have a commitment to maintaining and building the University’s excellence in teaching and learning, and who are doing research that has the potential for significant long-term academic and societal impact. We welcome applications from individuals with an interest in any area of PE & Sport and Exercise. This reflects our already strong coverage of core curriculum areas and clear research interest groups.

As a Faculty we also welcome candidates whose research work will resonate with one or more interdisciplinary Faculty Research Centres within the Institute for Lifecourse Development.

The school has an active and growing research base. We had a strong performance in REF2021 particularly with regard to ‘research environment’. We are looking to recruit an individual with a strong track record of leadership and management in an academic environment. We are seeking someone with a history of scholarly outputs and professional activities who, at the same time, can demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence and innovation as well as appropriate experience of teaching in the HE sector for this level. Candidates would be expected to have a PhD.
