About the Role:

As the Audit Director – AI Technology, Cyber, Data and GenAI Engineering, you will assume a senior leadership position, reporting to the Chief Auditor of AI Assurance. Your primary responsibility will be to strategically direct a team of audit professionals in assessing the risk and control environment surrounding the adoption of AI/GenAI technologies. This role is instrumental in positioning Citi Internal Audit as a leader in AI assurance within the financial services industry.

You will delve into the intricacies of AI Technology, Cyber, Data, and GenAI Engineering, ensuring that Citi's internal audit approach is both innovative and comprehensive. This dynamic global function, comprising over 2,500 professionals across more than 60 countries, is committed to continuous improvement, investing in its people, and fostering a culture of learning, development, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities and Opportunities:

This role offers a unique opportunity to:

  • Shape Audit Strategy: Develop and execute a strategic portfolio of assurance activities for AI Technology, Cyber, Data, and GenAI Engineering, ensuring high quality, efficiency, and timely delivery.
  • Become a Subject Matter Expert: Act as a trusted subject matter expert in AI Technology, Cyber, Data, and GenAI Engineering within the financial services context, partnering with key teams to scale AI assurance.
  • Assess Cutting-Edge Technologies: Lead and support audit engagements focusing on AI/GenAI systems, architectural best practices, security, and safety design. This includes evaluating GenAI platforms, tooling, infrastructure, and security controls.
  • Drive Security and Safety: Scrutinize cyber security controls and use-case-specific guardrails for AI, GenAI, and agentic AI implementations.
  • Evaluate Observability and Resilience: Assess GenAI observability and monitoring, focusing on AI-specific telemetry, and evaluate the resilience and disaster recovery capabilities of AI/GenAI systems.
  • Champion Data Integrity: Examine data pipelines, retrieval systems, and agentic workflows, with a keen focus on data integrity, privacy, access management, and robustness against adversarial conditions.
  • Ensure Governance and Compliance: Evaluate the adequacy of internal AI governance policies, adherence to AI/GenAI laws and regulations, and the effectiveness of ethical and compliance incident response frameworks.
  • Develop and Lead Talent: Attract, develop, and retain top audit talent, building a world-class team.
  • Influence Control Environment: Perform control environment assessments, identify thematic issues, and champion "auditability by design" by advising product and engineering teams.
  • Horizon Scanning: Proactively identify and translate emerging regulatory, ethical, and societal challenges in AI/GenAI into practical audit priorities.
  • Foster Collaboration: Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders across Internal Audit, business units, and regulators, ensuring transparent and proactive communication.
  • Represent Internal Audit: Represent Internal Audit in relevant governance forums, including Boards and Committees.

What Citi is Looking For:

To excel in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Extensive experience in a related field, with a strong emphasis on cyber security, technical architecture, cloud services, and integration patterns related to AI and GenAI applications.
  • An in-depth understanding of technical architecture and system engineering with a specific AI/GenAI focus.
  • Ideally, audit experience and subject matter expertise in AI Technology, Cyber, Data, and GenAI Engineering.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISA, CIA, CRISC, or similar are highly regarded. AI-related certifications are a distinct advantage.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a proven track record of developing talent and managing large, diverse professional teams.
  • The ability to comprehend complex global issues, assess risk implications, and provide pragmatic, commercially sound solutions.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including executive presence, strong relationship-building capabilities, and the ability to influence and provide credible challenge constructively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to remain unbiased and conduct effective negotiations.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (law, ethics, decision science, computer science, data science, finance, accounting, or a related field), or equivalent experience. A Master's degree is preferred.
