BBPLC COO Business Oversight Compliance Regulatory Reporting Specialist

Job at Barclays in Greater London

Career Opportunity: Compliance Advisory - Regulatory Reporting

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Compliance professional to join the BBPLC Chief Operating Office (COO) Business Oversight Compliance Team. As a key member, you will play a crucial role in providing day-to-day compliance advisory services, with a primary focus on regulatory reporting. This includes Barclays' Large Shareholding and Position reporting, Short Selling, and Takeover Panel reporting. You will collaborate closely with global teams, including Large Holdings Operations, Front Office, Legal, Operations Risk, Chief Data, and Controls Offices, offering you a broad exposure to a complex financial institution.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide essential compliance advisory on regulatory reporting requirements for a diverse range of products and trading activities within the region.
  • Support regulatory enquiries, examinations, surveys, and issue management, acting as a critical liaison between the business and regulatory bodies.
  • Represent Barclays at industry forums and working groups, staying at the forefront of regulatory developments.
  • Define and implement verification check approaches as a second-line oversight function.
  • Contribute to setting the tone and culture for risk and control frameworks, engaging in governance forums to challenge business strategy and execution.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, interpreting and applying policy and regulatory requirements in practical, day-to-day operations.
  • Identify and investigate potential market abuse, compliance risk events, and breaches, overseeing corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with business lines, legal, and risk management functions to ensure a comprehensive approach to compliance and risk.
  • Potentially lead initiatives, contribute to strategy, and drive recommendations for regulatory change and continuous improvement.

Key Advantages for Your Career Path:

This role offers significant advantages for professionals looking to advance their careers in financial compliance:

  • Broad Regulatory Exposure: Gain in-depth experience across critical UK/EMEA regulatory reporting areas such as large shareholdings, short selling, and takeover panel rules, with the potential for multi-jurisdictional knowledge.
  • Strategic Impact: You'll be instrumental in shaping the firm's approach to regulatory compliance, influencing business strategy and contributing to robust risk and control frameworks.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop strong relationships and honed communication skills by liaising with a wide array of internal stakeholders (Front Office, Legal, Operations, Risk) and external parties (regulators, trade repositories, vendors).
  • Influence and Leadership: The opportunity exists to influence senior stakeholders, challenge established practices, and potentially lead initiatives. Even as an individual contributor, you'll guide technical direction and mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Professional Development: This role emphasizes independent thought, strong judgment, and proactive problem-solving, fostering continuous learning and the development of advanced analytical and communication skills.
  • Industry Representation: Representing the firm at industry forums provides invaluable networking opportunities and a platform to shape industry best practices.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

To thrive in this role and maximize your career growth, consider the following:

  • Technical Expertise: A deep and practical understanding of UK/EMEA large shareholding, short selling, and/or takeover panel regulatory reporting is essential. Familiarity with large shareholding rules across multiple jurisdictions is a strong plus.
  • Analytical and Interpretative Skills: The ability to interpret complex rules, apply them clearly and concisely, and exercise sound judgment in day-to-day operations, regulatory change, and remediation is paramount.
  • Communication and Influence: You must be an effective communicator, capable of supporting regulatory change, resolving issues, and escalating concerns professionally. The ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders assertively, while remaining sensitive to business needs, is vital.
  • Proactive and Independent Work Ethic: The role requires initiative, autonomous working, efficient prioritization, planning, and reliable delivery.
  • Relationship Building: A collaborative approach and the ability to build trusted relationships across Compliance, business units, and support functions will be key to your success.
  • Attention to Detail: A high level of attention to detail is crucial, particularly when working through complex system flows and reporting logic.
  • Adaptability and Learning: Be prepared to be assessed on critical skills like risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital/technology awareness, in addition to your core technical skills.

This role, based in London with three anchor days, offers a dynamic environment to make a significant contribution to Barclays' commitment to regulatory and ethical responsibilities. It's an opportunity to embed yourself within a culture that values Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Stewardship, driven by a Mindset of Empowerment, Challenge, and Drive.
