About the Role: Business Risk Officer

This Business Risk Officer position is a strategic role designed for a professional who thrives on staying ahead of industry developments and actively contributing to strategic direction. Your work will have a significant impact on an entire business area, contributing to the overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function. You will provide crucial advice and counsel related to the technology and operations of the business.

Key Responsibilities and What You'll Do:

  • SOX Control Management: Partner with Front Office, Back Office, and Finance control owners to ensure the proper design, documentation, and execution of SOX key controls in alignment with Citi's SOX policy.
  • Process and Control Documentation: Review and develop process flows and Risk and Control Matrices to confirm that key controls effectively address relevant financial statement assertions.
  • Control Validation: Perform control walkthroughs to validate design effectiveness and assess operational execution.
  • SOX Attestation Support: Aid in Markets' year-end SOX control attestation by ensuring the completeness and accuracy of in-scope controls.
  • Quality Assurance: Support quality control certifications, evidence collection, and remediation efforts.
  • Framework Alignment: Liaise closely with SOX governance teams, internal/external auditors, and Finance to ensure Markets' processes are aligned with the overall SOX and MCA frameworks.
  • Improvement Initiatives: Work collaboratively with business partners on findings and make recommendations for enhancing practices.
  • Independent Operation: Operate with a limited level of direct supervision, exercising independence of judgment and autonomy.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for senior stakeholders and team members.
  • Risk Assessment and Ethical Conduct: Appropriately assess risk in business decisions, with a keen focus on the firm's reputation, safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets. This includes driving compliance with laws and regulations, adhering to policy, applying sound ethical judgment, and transparently managing and reporting control issues.

What Citi is Looking For in Candidates:

  • Extensive Experience: Significant relevant work experience in Business Risk & Controls, with a strong focus on SOX within the financial services industry.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrable experience using MS Excel and MS Access.
  • Communication Skills: Consistently clear and concise written and verbal communication.
  • Influence and Organization: Effective organizational and influencing skills.
  • Leadership Potential: Demonstrated ability to lead global team efforts and experience with third-party vendor management is preferred.
  • Problem-Solving and Strategic Thinking: Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to see the big picture while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Strategic Implementation: Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategy and process improvement initiatives.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's or University degree (or equivalent experience), with a Master's degree being a potential advantage. An ACA qualification or equivalent is also highly valued.
