The Markets Governance & Control function plays a crucial role in collaborating with Markets businesses and departments such as Compliance, Operational Risk, and Internal Audit. Its primary objective is to support the identification, evaluation, and management of operational and compliance risks within Markets Sales and Trading businesses. Specifically, the 1st Line of Defence (1LOD) Markets Controls Testing team is integral to this mission. This team is responsible for executing a comprehensive, risk-based program of control testing that spans all global Markets businesses. The core purpose of the 1LOD Markets Controls Testing team is to empower management with continuous monitoring of its control framework and residual risk profiles, thereby facilitating the responsible provision of financial services to clients and ensuring effective risk management for the firm.

This position reports to the Global Markets Control Testing Programme Head, a key leadership role within the Markets Governance & Control Team. The Programme Head oversees and directs a team of approximately 40 controls testing professionals, providing them with the breadth and depth of expertise necessary for effective control testing planning and execution to support the team's responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, execute, and report on the results of control testing across Markets Trading and Sales businesses.
  • Conduct controls design and operating effectiveness testing within agreed timelines, proactively escalating and resolving any obstacles to delivery.
  • Maintain high standards and best practices for the execution of testing activities and associated documentation.
  • Provide constructive challenge to stakeholders regarding the design and effectiveness of controls.
  • Support stakeholders in identifying and implementing necessary control remediation identified through the testing program.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across Front Office, Markets Conduct Risk, Compliance, and Operational Risk functions.
  • Draft impactful summary outputs from the testing program to inform decision-making.

  • Control Testing Expertise: Proficiency in control design assessment and effectiveness testing techniques and practices is required.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven experience in developing and maintaining effective relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Educational Background: While a Bachelor's or university education is preferred, exceptional industry experience and a proven track record of delivery will be highly valued.
