We’re now looking for a senior communications leader to join us, initially for three months. You’ll need to be a well-rounded communicator, skilled at internal and external comms and able to play a key role in supporting the delivery of a very busy and exciting agenda. It’s frenetic and fast-paced and incredibly rewarding.
Internally, we’ve got corporate colleague townhalls in May that we’re holding at the BFI on Southbank. Hot off the heels is our annual Leadership event in June and then into our Full Year results in July. We’re also launching our new colleague Employee Social Network (ESN) channel.
Externally, we’ve got a packed agenda on media engagement and public affairs. We’re very lucky to have a CEO and ExCo that are passionate about engaging with our external stakeholders, and there’s a lot coming over the hill, whether it’s media interviews, press releases, background briefings or Government engagement with Ministers and their teams.
As part of this role, you'll be responsible for:
Support the Head of External Communications in engaging the Government and Opposition on new and proposed Policy that impact the retail sector Develop tailored External Comms plans for ExCo members– integrating media and PA activity Work with key internal stakeholders to promote and defend priority areas including Omnichannel, Services, Supply Chain, ESG/Sustainability and our employee brand through the media, trade publications, conferences, awards, as well as owned and shared media opportunities Generate positive coverage in relevant business and consumer media and build positive relations with all media contacts Writing and editing communications materials including press releases, Q&A, strategy advisory notes etc Ensuring our social media strategy and digital content remains relevant and aligned to the broader business’s needs Overseeing and maintaining a robust media and social media measurement programme to assess the effectiveness of our external comms, generating analytical monthly reports for the Executive Committee and Board or ExCo Ensure effective media monitoring Support the Head of Internal Communications with the delivery of key events, including corporate townhalls, our annual Recognition programme, leadership events and FY results and our annual Peak colleague engagement event Support GLT Members on strategic communications and campaigns where influence and targeting of messages is necessary to be owned at GLT level Support in the development of our new Employee Social Network
You will need:
Minimum 3-5 years’ internal, corporate communications or public relations experience Exceptional planning and orchestration skills. Attention to detail is critical Experience of working in a busy team and managing multiple deadlines Experience in internal and external communications, ideally including working across different channels Exceptional communicator both written and verbal Open minded, innovative and able to demonstrate a curiosity for new developments in our discipline Good team player and able to work collaboratively - and also self-motivated with the drive and perseverance to work on own initiative as well as working within a team environment Proven ability to think ahead, engage proactively and take initiative Capable of achieving results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, often on short deadlines Comfortable operating in a matrix environment
