Review: Complex Needs Practitioner - Birmingham Young People Service

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate professional to join the Birmingham Young People Service, a vital part of Waythrough (formerly Richmond Fellowship and Humankind). This role offers a chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people aged 10-25 who are navigating complex challenges related to alcohol and substance misuse, as well as those impacted by family issues in this area.

Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Meaningful Impact: You will be at the forefront of empowering young people to reduce risk, build resilience, and achieve positive life outcomes through a person-centred approach.
  • Holistic Support: The service provides comprehensive support, addressing individual needs and the wider family context, allowing for a truly integrated approach to care.
  • Diverse Caseload: Engage with a varied caseload encompassing community-based interventions and referrals from a wide range of multi-agency partners, including health, social care, education, youth provision, and the criminal justice system. This offers excellent breadth of experience.
  • Professional Development: Waythrough is committed to learning and development, offering a range of apprenticeships and opportunities for continued professional growth.
  • Organisational Evolution: Join an organisation undergoing significant positive transformation as part of Waythrough, a national group with a strong vision to break down barriers to support.
  • Commitment to Diversity: The organisation actively seeks to increase diversity and welcomes applications from individuals with lived experience and/or from BAME backgrounds, valuing the unique perspectives this brings.

Key Considerations for Candidates:

  • Flexible Working: This role requires a flexible working pattern, including days, evenings, and weekends, to meet the needs of young people across the community and within partner settings.
  • Outreach Focus: A significant aspect of the role involves outreach work, requiring you to be comfortable working in various community settings in addition to a central hub base.
  • Qualifications and Experience: A qualification in health/social care, youth and community work (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or above, Dip SW, Mental Health Nursing, Counselling, Addiction Studies) is preferred. However, candidates with substantial experience in relevant fields and a commitment to achieving NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care will also be considered.
  • Essential Skills: Proven experience in liaising with voluntary and statutory agencies, health professionals, and engaging effectively with clients in diverse settings is crucial. Excellent record-keeping and report-writing skills are also essential.
  • Fixed-Term Contract: This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position.
  • Rolling Recruitment: Please note that this is a rolling recruitment process, with interviews conducted as candidates are shortlisted.

This role presents a rewarding career path for individuals passionate about youth work and committed to supporting vulnerable young people. The emphasis on a person-centred approach, multi-agency collaboration, and continuous development makes this a compelling opportunity for those seeking to advance their careers in the social care sector.
