Citi continues to enhance its business control and governance framework by building out Institutional Credit Management (ICM), a relatively new function in the 1st Line of Defense, to house and consistently manage credit risk activities performed across its Institutional Client Group organization. ICMs objective is to provide integrated “end-to-end” credit underwriting, identification, measurement, management, and monitoring for wholesale credit risk across the enterprise. Within ICM, the Credit Underwriting function (ICM-UW) provides analysis, greenlight, underwriting, first-line-of-defense credit approval and subsequent credit monitoring across all wholesale credit businesses including Banking, Capital Markets, and Advisory (BCMA), Global Structured Products, Financings, and Securitizations (GSP-F&S), Treasury & Trade Services (TTS), Markets, and Securities Services (MSS)

The Global Head of Corporate Regional Markets and Public Sector Underwriting (“CRMPS Head”) leads the global credit underwriting function for Citis corporate relationships in Latin America (LATAM), Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), Middle East and Africa (MEA), and Asia Pacific (APAC) as well as the Global Public Sector portfolio in all Regions (NAM, Europe, MEA, LATAM and APAC). CRMPS also covers Financial Institutions (FIs) in LATAM, CEE, MEA and some countries in APAC. The CRMPS Head reports directly to the ICM Global Head.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Set the global strategy for and drive execution of the Corporate Credit Underwriting function including the following:

Leading a global team of dozens of senior credit underwriters globallySetting a global culture which demands excellence in analysis, underwriting, monitoring, thought leadership, and strong executionEnsures continuous adoption of leading practices in credit analysis, underwriting, and monitoring and drives global consistency across regionsPromotes functions close engagement with global and Regional Business Heads, Independent Risk, regulators, and other control functions to allow critical emerging areas of credit risk to be well understood and disseminated throughout the organizationAccountable for sustaining strong talent in the function including assessing the adequacy and quality of staffing, to ensure the team are well trained and competitively compensated and that talent development initiatives are in placeFacilitate relationships with key clients in Banking and Risk and with key Regulators, Internal Audit, and control functionsSupport the Global Heads of Underwriting and other global function/business partners on strategic initiatives/projectsSupport VOE initiatives

SPECIFIC RISK EXPERIENCE:

Senior credit approval authority covering large and complex underwritings, capital commitments, derivatives with multi-industry experienceTrack record of managing large, diverse, high-performing teamsProven experience in effectively engaging with banking regulatorsExperience in and exposure to global credit risk management standardsAbility to understand capital markets products and complex financing and product structuresAbility to provide strategic insights and strong sensitivity to macro and regulatory issues, and impact of such issues on the various Risk families, including operational and franchise risksAble to discuss and address issues associated with the allocation of risk assets and risk capital in partnership with banking and product organizations

MANAGEMENT CAPABILITY:

Demonstrates managerial maturity in looking out for the best interests of the enterpriseProven change management skills including leading complex Transformation initiativesA strong mentor and coach – one with the ability to rally followers and strengthen the overall risk culture of the organizationHighly skilled communicator who ensures key messages are cascaded throughout the organization

CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS / BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP:

Proven ability to understand nuances of local markets, local regulation, and the capabilities and practices of competitorsNavigates organizational complexity and breaks silosCreates and sustains a network of strong partnerships with the business in all segments & geographies and other risk functionsProvides well-reasoned, balanced assessments of risk/return trade-offs associated with transactions and client relationshipsProven track record of partnering with global peers in leveraging and implementation of best practices

QUALIFICATIONS:

Significant risk/risk-related credit work experience in banking/financial institutionsLevel 2 Senior Credit Officer designation with potential to become Level 1 in the near term is preferredProven ability to effectively engage with regulators and internal control functions including Internal Audit and Fundamental Credit Risk as well as with external auditDemonstrates strong ethics and integrityStrong leadership. Dynamic, flexible, and with strong communication skillsAbility to see the ‘big picture in a complex environmentCan make decisions under pressure and short timelineExcellent verbal & written communication skills. Active listening skills.Demonstrated influencing and negotiating ability, resolve conflicts amongst various constituenciesExcellent presentation skills – adept at presenting effectively to audiences of various sizes and various constituencies
