Job Title: Data Science Lead Location: Colworth Science Park Work-Level: 2B JOB PURPOSE At Unilever, we are committed to developing safe & sustainable products for our consumers. As a Data Science Lead in our Safety, Environmental & Regulatory (SERS) team, you will use your combined technical and project management expertise to lead the development of new digital tools and data analytics capabilities that support the safety, sustainability and regulatory compliance of our products. In this exciting role, you will collaborate with a diverse range of business leaders, internal IT partners and scientists (including biologists, toxicologists, eco-toxicologists, computational chemists, and mathematical modellers) to lead on delivery of the digital tools and data-insights that ensure our brands have safe, sustainable & compliant products at their core. In addition, you’ll be getting ‘hands on’ with your technical skills and prototyping, developing, troubleshooting and supporting software developers to meet project objectives. You will be joining a team of passionate data scientists where you will be supported in your own development and expected to help others grow in their roles. The role is based in the dynamic environment of our SERS team at Colworth Science Park, Sharnbrook located near Bedford. RESPONSIBILITIES Lead projects & activities to design, develop and disseminate user-friendly scientific tools, pipelines/workflows and databases to a wide group of scientists within SERS and wider Unilever R&D, including both expert and non-expert users. Provide technical leadership to define requirements, design and deliver fit-for-purpose digital solutions in collaboration with SERS stakeholders and/or third parties Lead small teams of data scientists, analysts and software developers to meet project objectives Use your technical skills to identify and solve data-driven problems and drive business impact through data-driven decision making Drive a data-driven culture within SERS, promoting the use of analytics for decision making and unlocking new opportunities Support the development of others through relevant expertise communities, ensuring expertise and knowledge is current and relevant Ensure SERS governance is maintained, fit for purpose & implemented for data, tools & analytics ALL ABOUT YOU You’ll need to be able to work effectively and with impact in cross-disciplinary teams and in multi-cultural environments, be flexible and willing to adapt within a fast-changing business environment. We would expect the successful candidate to have: Relevant experience in data science, computer science, or a related field with experience in developing & prototyping digital tools and data analytics approaches Excellent programming skills with experience in scientific computing languages and libraries (e.g. R, Python) Experience of using code version control (e.g. DevOps) and writing high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code Passion for using data to solve problems and using data analysis/visualization to provide actionable insights that drive business impact Strong communication skills and ability to communicate complex ideas to non-technical audiences Ability to lead and motivate others to work independently and as part of a team Enjoy keeping pace with advances in digital tools and data analytics Highly self-motivated, with a proven track record of collaborating effectively in interdisciplinary teams Desirable: Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, GCP) Project leadership experience in agile software development (ideally scientific software) Familiarity with data management/data integration approaches of diverse data sets (including database design, ontologies) Good understanding of statistical analysis and/or application of mathematical techniques NOTES Please apply via this portal as e-mail applications may not be processed and include your Future Fit Plan if possible.
