AstraZeneca is a global, science-led biopharmaceutical business and its innovative medicines are used by millions of patients worldwide. AstraZeneca Summer Internships introduce you to the world of ground-breaking drug development, embedding you in highly dedicated teams, committed to delivering life-changing medicines to patients. Our 10–12-week program is designed for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. We offer exciting opportunities across Research & Development, Operations, and Enabling Units (Corporate functions).

Our internships immerse students in the pharmaceutical industry, allowing the opportunity to contribute to our diverse pipeline of medicines whether in the lab or outside of it. You will feel trusted and empowered to take on new challenges, but with all the help and guidance you need to succeed. This internship will help you develop essential skills, expand your knowledge, and build a network that will set you up for future success. You will be surrounded by curious, passionate, and open-minded professionals eager to learn and follow the science, fostering your growth in a truly collaborative and global team.

Join our innovative formulation development team as a Summer Intern focused on a Developability Initiative. Developability involves assessing whether a drug candidate can be efficiently developed into a safe, effective, and manufacturable product. This role is positioned within our dynamic formulation team under the umbrella of the biopharmaceutical development department, where you will gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge High Throughput Screening Techniques (HTST). These are methods that allow rapid collection of large data sets, speeding up the formulation development process. It's important that this data matches real-world results to ensure it is useful and accurate. Our project goal is to see if HTST can replace traditional methods, using less material and generating data more quickly. This could lead to faster identification of successful biologics, ultimately helping patients receive effective treatments sooner.

Accountabilities:

Collaborate with the R&D team to assess and validate high throughput assays.

Conduct experiments focusing on key biologic formulation attributes.

Analyze and interpret assay data to support formulation development decisions.

Document experimental processes, findings, and insights accurately and comprehensively.

Present findings to the team, providing scientific rationale and recommendations.

Engage with cross-functional teams to understand the broader context of biologic drug development.

Essential Skills/Experience:

Currently pursuing a degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.

Fundamental knowledge of laboratory techniques and assay development.

Demonstrated interest in biologics development and formulation science.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Enthusiasm for learning and working within a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
