This opportunity is within our Digital Service, which is responsible for the University’s use of digital systems and services that support teaching and learning across our four campuses. As part of the Digital Solutions Team, you will collaborate with a variety of teams gaining technical knowledge and experience with a wide number of enterprise technologies. You will be supporting the design, building and testing of high-quality software solutions.
On a day-to-day basis your main responsibilities will:
Assist in writing, testing, and debugging code.Participate in code reviews to learn from feedback and improve coding skills.Collaborate with team members on project tasks, learning how to work effectively within a development team.Support the testing process by writing unit tests, performing manual tests, and helping to identify and fix bugs.Maintain accurate documentation of code.Assist in maintaining and updating existing software by identifying and fixing bugs, and implementing small enhancements, providing support for ongoing projects.Provide first line technical and user support, covering all aspects of digital systems.As part of the Digital Solutions Team, you will be working on:
Mobile apps (including our award-winning Beacon app)Web applicationsDatabases (including Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server)Dynamics 365Automating processesAnalytics, machine learning and AIYou will gain professional experience in development using languages and frameworks such as:
C#Microsoft .NETSQLNode.jsReactJSJavaScriptTypeScriptWe are looking for curious and daring individuals with a passion for technology to join us within our Digital Solutions Team in the role of development apprentice. You will earn whilst you learn, on our Digital and Technology Solutions Apprenticeship Degree, with release from your role to attend lectures and study weeks with approximately 80% of time working and 20% studying.
To be successful in this role you will need an interest in software development, have excellent problem-solving skills and good attention to detail. Studying for a degree whilst in full time employment is hard work, you will need a positive professional attitude, good organisational skills and a strong work ethic to achieve your goals. Qualifications requirements are a Level 2 English and Maths (GCSE grade C / 4) or Functional Skills level 2 or Equivalent In addition your will have 104 - 112 UCAS Points from A-Levels/BTEC or other qualifications or relevant experience in career field.
