Salary upon finishing the Apprentice programme is circa £32,000 per annum. Working Pattern:Permanent | 3 years apprentice programme Start Date: August 2025 Are you looking for a hands-on, field-based career that plays a vital role in delivering electricity to homes and businesses? Our Distribution Apprenticeships offer exciting opportunities to train as a Fitter, Jointer or Linesperson, helping to maintain and develop the electricity network Fitter – Works on electrical infrastructure, including maintaining and installing vital components across the network. Jointer – Specialises in underground electricity cables, repairing faults, upgrading supplies, and connecting new properties. Linesperson – Works at height on the overhead electricity network, ensuring power lines are built, maintained, and restored during supply faults. If you enjoy working outdoors, solving problems, and using your hands to make a real impact, this could be the perfect career path for you! What to Expect: Earn While You Learn – Over 3 years, you'll gain valuable on-the-job experience, industry-recognised qualifications, and academic training at college and our internal training school. Work That Matters – Youll play a crucial role in maintaining electricity supplies, responding to emergencies, and supporting the Net Zero transition. Travel & Accommodation Support – Our block release training means you may need to stay away from home for several weeks at a time. SSE will fully support your travel and accommodation needs. To succeed in this role, you should • Be proactive and resilient – Able to use your initiative and adapt to changes in the energy sector • Be a fast learner – Have a passion for learning new skills, working with others, and embracing diversity. • Prioritise safety – Follow our key safety principle: "If it's not safe, we don't do it." • Be comfortable working at height – If applying for a Linesperson role, you must demonstrate confidence in working at height. • Enjoy hands-on outdoor work – Youll be working outside in all weather conditions to keep the lights on for customers • Driving Commitment – While not essential at the start, its beneficial if you're learning to drive or already hold a licence. By the end of the programme, youll be expected to have a full UK driving licence.
