Customer Support Technician Level 3 Apprentice - Guildford (Guildford Business Park, Guildford, United Kingdom)

Job at British Telecommunications in Guildford, Surrey

Unlock Your Career in Technology: A Review of the Customer Support Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship at BT Group

Are you passionate about technology and eager to make a tangible impact while building a strong foundation for your career? The Customer Support Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship with BT Group, based in Guildford, offers a unique opportunity to gain invaluable hands-on experience and a nationally recognised qualification with a leading global telecommunications company.

This apprenticeship is designed for individuals who are not just seeking a job, but a chance to truly make a difference in how millions of people live, work, and connect. BT Group's commitment to powering businesses, public services, and daily lives through technology is at the heart of this role.

Key Advantages for Aspiring Technicians:

  • Hands-On, Field-Based Experience: This isn't a desk job. You'll be working directly with a diverse range of customers, from small local businesses to large corporate organisations, attending sites daily. This direct exposure will give you a real-world understanding of how technology is used in innovative ways.
  • Comprehensive Learning and Development: Over 18 months, you'll dedicate a minimum of 20% of your working hours, including a dedicated "study day" each week, to learning. This structured approach ensures you gain a Level 3 qualification in Information Communication while simultaneously applying your knowledge in a practical setting. BT Group emphasizes that prior super-technical skills aren't essential; they'll provide all the training you need.
  • Making a Real Impact: As part of BT Group, you'll contribute to services that keep the "wheels of business spinning" and emergency services responding. You'll play a crucial role in setting up, optimising, and resolving issues with customer services and solutions, directly impacting their operational success.
  • Dynamic Customer Interaction: Beyond technical support, you'll confidently discuss customer needs, solve problems, and even recommend new digital products and services from BT's portfolio. This develops both your technical and vital soft skills.
  • Supportive and Inclusive Environment: BT Group prides itself on its 175+ years of heritage and its commitment to diversity and inclusion. As an apprentice, you'll be part of a team that champions digital inclusion and provides a supportive environment for you to learn and grow, making friends and discovering new talents along the way.
  • Clear Career Pathway: This apprenticeship is a stepping stone. The training and experience gained will set you up for progression within the field and beyond, offering a strong start to a rewarding career in technology.

Important Considerations for Candidates:

  • Field Role Requires Travel: As a field-based technician, daily travel in a company van is an integral part of the role. Therefore, candidates must hold a full manual driving licence with no more than six points no later than one month before the 8th September 2025 start date. This is a critical requirement.
  • Commitment to Study: While you'll be gaining hands-on experience, you must also be prepared to commit to the academic demands of the Level 3 qualification, including a dedicated study day each week. This requires good time management and self-discipline.
  • Essential Entry Requirements: Candidates need five GCSEs at grades 4-9 (C or above), including English and Maths (or equivalent). You will also need to hold full UK Right to Work for the entire 18-month duration of the scheme.
  • Prior Qualification Check: If you already possess a Level 3 qualification in Information Communication, this specific apprenticeship may not be suitable for you. It's best to confirm directly with the recruitment team if you are unsure.
  • Security Clearance: Due to the nature of the work, some roles may require security clearance. The Early Careers recruitment team will guide you through this process if applicable.

Who Should Apply?

This opportunity is ideal for proactive individuals who are passionate about technology (even without extensive prior technical expertise) and possess excellent communication skills. If you thrive in dynamic environments, enjoy solving problems, and are eager to learn and grow within a leading organisation that impacts millions, this apprenticeship could be your perfect starting point. BT Group actively encourages applications from diverse backgrounds, so if you're excited by the role but don't tick every single box, they encourage you to apply.

Seize this chance to make a real difference and launch your career in technology with BT Group!
