EC&I Project Engineer

Job at Bilfinger in Warrington, Warrington, WA3

Review: EC&I Project Engineer Opportunity with Bilfinger UK

Bilfinger UK stands as a prominent leader in engineering and maintenance services, serving a diverse array of critical industries including chemical & petrochemical, nuclear, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals & biopharma, power & energy, utilities, renewables, and food & beverage. Their core mission revolves around enhancing asset efficiency, ensuring high operational availability, and optimizing maintenance costs. With extensive experience spanning both offshore and onshore facilities, Bilfinger UK offers comprehensive asset management services across the entire asset lifecycle, from initial consulting and engineering through to manufacturing, assembly, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning.

This opportunity for an EC&I Project Engineer, based at Bilfinger UK's Head Office in Warrington, presents a compelling career move for ambitious professionals. You will play a pivotal role in developing Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Construction Work Packs (CWPs) based on Bilfinger UK's designs, strictly adhering to client standards and specifications. These CWPs are instrumental in the tendering process, sub-contractor management, and ultimately, project handover and closeout.

A key aspect of this role involves contributing to constructability reviews of EC&I designs, working closely with the Head Office team while also undertaking weekly visits to National Grid Transmission (NGT) sites. This blended approach offers exposure to both strategic planning and on-site execution.

Advantages for Potential Candidates:

  • Impactful Projects: You'll be contributing to the successful delivery of a multi-discipline project, directly impacting national infrastructure for a key Bilfinger UK client. This offers a significant sense of purpose and visibility.
  • Industry Exposure: Bilfinger UK's diverse market reach means you'll gain experience across a broad spectrum of essential industries, broadening your skillset and marketability.
  • Career Development: The role emphasizes collaboration with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders, fostering excellent communication and teamwork skills. The requirement for independent decision-making and providing expert technical support will drive your professional growth.
  • Structured Workflows: The structured development of CWPs ensures a methodical approach to project execution, providing clear direction and a framework for success.
  • Proactive Risk Management: The emphasis on identifying and proactively addressing potential risks and issues positions you to develop strong problem-solving capabilities and a strategic approach to project delivery.
  • Professional Recognition: While a degree or HND/C is required, being Chartered or Incorporated (CEng or IEng) is preferred, indicating the company values and supports professional accreditation.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Hazardous Industry Experience: The role requires a minimum of 5 years of EC&I engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a hazardous industry (e.g., petrochemical, oil & gas, nuclear). Candidates with this background will find a strong alignment with the role's demands.
  • Site Engagement: While primarily office-based in Warrington, the weekly site visits to NGT sites require adaptability and the ability to engage effectively in different environments.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Success in this role hinges on strong communication and interpersonal skills, essential for collaborating within a large project team, coordinating with subcontractors, and liaising with clients.
  • Technical Proficiency: A solid understanding of EC&I design principles, construction methodologies, and the ability to develop comprehensive work packs, including all necessary documentation (drawings, specifications, procedures, ITPs, RAMs), is crucial.
  • Proactive & Self-Motivated: The ability to be self-motivated and achieve client deadlines is paramount, requiring effective time management and a results-oriented mindset.

This EC&I Project Engineer position offers a dynamic and challenging environment for experienced professionals seeking to contribute to high-profile national infrastructure projects. If you possess the requisite experience and a drive for excellence, this role at Bilfinger UK represents a significant opportunity to advance your career within a leading engineering and maintenance provider.
