Volunteer Education Mentor - Make a Tangible Impact on Young Lives

Are you passionate about empowering the next generation? Do you possess a desire to contribute positively to your community and guide young people through crucial developmental stages? The King's Trust is seeking dedicated individuals to join their Mosaic programme as Volunteer Education Mentors. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people aged 11-15, fostering their growth in essential life skills.

What the Opportunity Offers You:

This role presents a rewarding pathway for personal and professional development, offering:

  • Direct Impact: Work hands-on with children and young people, directly influencing their confidence, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Meaningful Connections: Build rapport with a consistent group over an 8-week period, observing their progress and celebrating their achievements.
  • Skill Development: Enhance your own communication, organisation, and leadership skills. The role provides provided session content and opportunities for weekly planning and review, fostering a proactive approach to delivery.
  • Comprehensive Support: Receive dedicated guidance from a King's Trust Youth Development Lead, ensuring you feel confident and equipped to deliver impactful sessions.
  • Structured Training: Benefit from a mandatory in-person training session, complemented by online modules, to prepare you thoroughly for your mentoring responsibilities.
  • Personal Growth: Experience the profound satisfaction of contributing to a cause that genuinely transforms young lives, particularly for those facing significant barriers.
  • Community Belonging: Become part of a dedicated network of volunteers and an organisation committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, with active support networks for all staff and volunteers.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

When considering this opportunity, here are some key aspects to keep in mind to align with your career aspirations:

  • Time Commitment: The programme runs for two 8-week cycles during the Spring and Summer terms of 2026, commencing in January 2026. Each week requires approximately one hour of direct session delivery in schools, plus additional time for preparation. You'll be expected to attend at least six out of eight sessions per programme. Flexibility and adaptability are crucial, as programme locations, dates, and times can vary annually.
  • Location and Travel: Roles are based in or within approximately 45 minutes of Greater Manchester. Specific locations and timings are detailed in the original job advert, with a current priority for East Didsbury, Crumpsall, Wigan, and Worsley.
  • Safeguarding: A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is paramount. An Enhanced Disclosure Check will be conducted.
  • Essential Attributes: While an educational background is not a prerequisite, a genuine enthusiasm for engaging with and developing young people is essential. Strong organisational, communication, and reliability skills are key.
  • Programme Structure: You will be delivering group mentoring sessions focused on essential life skills, building rapport, and fostering positive group dynamics.

This Volunteer Education Mentor role offers a rewarding experience for individuals looking to invest their time and energy into making a tangible difference. It's an excellent opportunity to develop valuable skills, contribute to a vital cause, and become part of a supportive and inclusive community dedicated to empowering young people.
