The School of Arts, Humanities and Creative Industries includes teaching areas in Literature and Languages, the Guildford School of Acting, and Music and Media, where this role will sit, although the role will have a School-wide remit. Music and Media, also includes undergraduate degrees in Music, Creative Music Technology, Music and Sound Recording (Tonmeister) and Film Production and Broadcast Engineering. Masters degrees include Music and FADA - Film and Digital Animation.  Research Centres within the department include the International Guitar Research Centre and the Institute of Sound Recording (IoSR).  The IoSR and the FPBE research are closely allied with the Centre for Vision and Speech Signal Processing (CVSSP) in the faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

The role

We are seeking a self-motivated technician to support the University of Surrey's new undergraduate BSc degree in Games Design. You will work with excellent colleagues, students, and partners to provide technical support and teaching assistance.

The role will involve: 

Assisting in the delivery of computer-based teaching sessionsSupporting students and creating documentationSupporting teaching staff in all of the School’s computer labsLiaising closely with University IT services for upgrades, installations and configurations

The role will be predominantly based on site with occasional home working.

About you

The successful candidate will have a degree in a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience, and will have experience in Game development software including game engines and 3D animation. Knowledge of computer hardware and software installation preferably in a lab environment is also required.

Our facilities

Our learning environment supports special mix of scholarship, academic research and high-level practice. As well as the new 25 seat highly specified dedicated PC lab for Games Design, there is a Mac Lab for creative software, a small PC based lab for digital animation, and also a Mac and PC lab within the Guildford School of Acting. Other nearby facilities include three professional recording studios with consoles by Student and AMS/Neve, five edit rooms with Apple Mac Pros, Avid Pro Tools and Apple Logic software, and two vans for location recording with a vast array of microphones. There is also an industry standard TV studio with a Sony MVS8000G vision mixer, and a green screen area.
