Head of Data Science

Job at Dentsu Aegis Network in Greater London, NW1

This role represents a significant opportunity for a seasoned leader to shape the future of marketing science and data-driven decision-making within a leading global media organization. As the Head of Data Science, you will be instrumental in establishing and leading a world-class Centre of Excellence, merging analytics, econometrics, and data science to deliver tangible client growth and business performance.

Key Advantages for Potential Candidates:

  • Strategic Leadership & Influence: This is a senior leadership position where you will define the strategic direction for Data Science in the UK&I. You'll have the autonomy to architect a future-ready Centre of Excellence, influencing cross-functional alignment and shaping the discipline's overall vision.
  • Innovation & Methodological Advancement: You will be at the forefront of modernizing measurement methodologies. This includes evolving Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM) into a digital-first, agile solution, scaling incrementality and causal inference, and embedding experimentation across the full marketing funnel. The opportunity to develop proprietary tools and IP is significant.
  • Client Impact & Commercial Growth: This role offers direct engagement with high-level client decisioning. You'll lead measurement and effectiveness strategies in new business pitches, craft compelling data-driven narratives, and influence C-suite stakeholders, directly contributing to revenue growth and account expansion.
  • Industry Leadership: The position provides a platform to become an industry thought leader. You'll represent the organization in external forums, share groundbreaking insights, and increase visibility for the company's data science capabilities.
  • Team Development & Culture Building: You will lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team of over 40 professionals. This is a chance to cultivate a high-performance culture of innovation, learning, and inclusion, and to shape succession planning for critical roles.
  • Integration & Collaboration: You will collaborate closely with media, strategy, data, and technology teams, as well as external data providers. This integrated approach ensures a holistic and impactful application of data science.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Depth of Expertise Required: This role demands extensive experience (15+ years) in senior leadership within analytics, data science, econometrics, or measurement, ideally in agency or marketing environments. A deep understanding of MMM, experimentation, causal inference, and brand-performance integration is crucial.
  • Strategic Vision & Execution: Candidates need to demonstrate the ability to set a clear strategic direction while also overseeing the operationalization and delivery of complex data science initiatives at scale.
  • Client-Centricity & Commercial Acumen: A strong client focus and commercial astuteness are essential. You must be adept at translating complex data into actionable strategies that drive tangible business outcomes and client growth.
  • Influencing & Stakeholder Management: The ability to influence diverse stakeholders across different functions, even without direct authority, is paramount. This includes engaging credibly with senior executives and building alignment for data-driven approaches.
  • Adaptability & Future-Focus: The marketing landscape is constantly evolving. Candidates should be intellectually curious, embrace change, and be driven by the excitement of transforming marketing science through innovative techniques and automation.
  • Ethical Data Practices: A commitment to data ethics, privacy, and methodological integrity is fundamental to this role, setting the standard for transparent and responsible data utilization.

This is a career-defining opportunity for an experienced and visionary leader looking to make a significant impact in the dynamic field of marketing science. If you are passionate about leveraging data to drive transformative business outcomes and possess the strategic acumen and leadership qualities outlined, this role offers a compelling platform for professional growth and influence.
