The role: Head of Design

The Head of Design is an exciting new role, leading design across all our customer touchpoints. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, you’ll lead the creative direction of the BA brand through the Customer experience, delivering design programmes that enhance our original British style, improving the experience for our customers and ensuring consistent application across the business

What you’ll do:

Lead the creative design direction of the BA brand through the customer experience. Develop end to end creative direction for the customer experience and ensure consistent application across all customer and brand touchpoints (marketing communications, pre-travel, airport ground, lounge, aircraft cabin and back office) Lead design workstreams across key customer programmes e.g. cabin/seat development programmes, new lounges, airport customer experience, onboard soft product (bedding, amenity kits, menus), onboard digital experience. Develop the global brand identity – logo, livery, typeface etc, working in collaboration with the Brand team Lead Creative Studio to develop high quality content for multiple business areas to strengthen brand and colleague narrative, driving greater efficiencies through in-house model Work with the Head of Brand to ensure the design blueprint continuously reflects the overall brand direction and customer strategy Oversee the design budget, making appropriate commercial decisions to balance in-house vs outsourced activity to deliver the best value Hold senior relationships with design suppliers, driving best value for money through effective supplier selection and management. Seek to continuously improve design best practice through external network and industry knowledge

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

Ability to translate a brand strategy into a compelling, consistent design which drives brand recognition and commercial results. Able to draw insight and inspiration from external and internal sources to deliver market-leading creative design Commerciality, able to understand the true value of in-house vs agency development to deliver the best outcomes Consistency in displaying & role modelling inspiring and supportive leadership skills & behaviours Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills Strong people management experience, able to lead high-performing teams in line with people management best practice Able to review design proposals and give appropriate creative and design feedback / direction

 Your experience:

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience Experience in a creative or design role for a customer-facing organisation (essential) Experience in end-to-end physical and digital creative development Brand, design or marketing qualification (desirable) Experienced people manager
