As an Experienced Linux Engineer at The University of Nottingham, you will be responsible for maintaining, optimising, and enhancing our Linux-based infrastructure. You will collaborate with a team of dedicated professionals to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our systems. This position will be offered on full time, permanent basis.
Key Responsibilities:
Linux System Administration: Manage and maintain Linux servers, ensuring high availability and performanceSystem Optimisation: Continuously monitor and optimize system performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecksSecurity: Implement and maintain robust security measures, including access control, firewall configurations, and vulnerability assessmentsAutomation: Develop and maintain automation scripts for system provisioning and configuration managementTroubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex system issues promptly to minimize downtimeCollaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to support application development and deploymentTechnical Skills Required:
In-depth knowledge of Linux server administration (Red Hat, CentOS, or similar distributions)Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl for automationSome knowledge of containerisation technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like KubernetesStrong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPNFamiliarity with cloud platforms, such as AWS or Azure, is a plusBehavioural Competencies:
