INTERNAL VACANCY - This post is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only. 

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Support & Wellbeing Team (part of the Student and Campus Life Division), as a Support and Wellbeing Engagement Officer.  

This is a key wellbeing role linked to the attendance monitoring system at the university, designed to identify students who have reached the point of total non-engagement and require checks to provide assistance with any wellbeing issues underscoring a period of prolonged disengagement.   

The role requires experience of working with large datasets and processing large amounts of information. For students identified by the system as being totally non engaged, you will also be required to work across multiple platforms and systems to check other sources of information, successfully interpreting each individual situation to determine an appropriate response within the guidelines, policies, and workflows provided.    

These processes require a significant amount of communications in regards to, multiple attempts to contact disengaged students, and ongoing  contact with relevant/associated academic and APM colleagues in each school/department across the university. This will involve tracking communication attempts and ensuring follow-ups are completed successfully. Communication methods used include extensive telephone calls, email, sms text messaging, instant messages, video calls, and written letters. Occasional student meetings may also be required.  

In addition to the administrative and investigative aspects of the role, you will also provide advice and guidance to students once contract is made. The focus of student contact in relation to non-engagement is to provide support and information to students, many of whom will be experiencing extensive difficulties related to their wellbeing. This will involve conversations that maybe challenging and sensitive in nature, where you will provide practical and emotional support, offering comprehensive advice and signposting to other internal and external services as appropriate. An important part of the role also involves helping students to understand university policies and processes and referring them on (or escalating issues) to other specialist services. This will also involve highlighting their viable options and encouraging them to take steps to reengage with their studies where appropriate.  

You will be highly motivated, organised and an excellent communicator, readily able to demonstrate sound judgment under pressure. A high level of tactful communication, sensitivity and diplomacy will be required, for both conversations with students, and in other situations as required by the post.  We welcome applications from people committed to delivering a high quality, professional service to our students and colleagues, and have a pro-active and flexible attitude to work. The Support and Wellbeing Team is a large team split into component sub-teams, mainly based around the five academic faculties, who provide an advice and support service locally to where each team’s students are studying. This role will be part of the services additional Engagement Team, led by the Engagement and Student Wellbeing Systems Manager. 

While the role holder will be embedded, line managed and supported as a member of the Support and Wellbeing Team, they will also work closely with other colleagues across the university to support the work of the team and build strong professional networks. The role holder will also promote the work of the team and provide updates to colleagues from across the university as required. This will be delivered through various means including: presentations, meeting updates and written communications. Please note, this post is part time and term time only. This is equal to a 0.5FTE post over a year. 

The post is offered on permanent basis and may involve one day a week working from home (where practicable, and where this is agreed with the manager/senior leadership). Job share arrangements may be considered.
